Do you give them away, sell them, trade.. etc?? I'd love to hear :)
If you sell them online or blog about them, please provide a link. |
I give most of mine away, that is the ones my DD doesn't snatch up. LOL

All of mine are give-aways. I don't have a single quilt I have made for myself!! I take pictures of them, save small pieces of the fabrics I used in them and put these in an album. I love looking back at the pictures and often wonder what became of those quilts. I wonder if they are being loved?

I made a teeny tiny blanky for a pregnant friend and she was thrilled, the look in the receiver's eyes are priceless. However I am so new I have yet to make anything for me and the hubby out of fear.
Presents, donations. I used to sell years ago, but it is more fun when it isn't a business.
I've never been brave enough to give any away. They are all over the house.
Two have gone to my DS. One is an incomplete couch quilt for me. Another is in the works for my BIL as a wedding gift. A couple were wall hangings I gave as prezzie. One went to my niece.
I have given away a lot. would love to find a way to sell a few. Have lots of tops done. not in any hurry to finish as they have no home yet.

Most of my sewing is french hand sewing by machine, heirloom style clothing for my girls so most are saved. My first quilt was given away to a charity. My second quilt "Jane" is half way done, she matches my antique picnic basket and is looking forward to life as a beach bum. (we are moving to Virginia Beach in December) My future quilts are for my kids, my nieces, and for my linen closet, to save for winter. When you have a 100 year old farm house it gets drafty.
Sold some, but never get what my time is worth. Mainly, I keep them or give away as gifts.
I have a single bed piled high with completed quilts, lap quilts, wallhangings, tablerunners, dolls quilts. I make a few charity quilts for raffles and give away an occasional one to friends. I hope to one day sell some online but quite a few I can't bear to part with.
I give them away. A friend at work said she would pay me if I made one for her baby. I said no...........but I would give her one. She didn't know I had already started one for him. She held off decorating the babys room til she had the quilt and decorated around it. Made my day.
I kept the first dozen that I made. After that, all have been given away. I feel blessed that I am able to give them to others.
My bible study teacher wanted to commission me to make two quilts for her grandaughters. I told her no, I would just give them to her. She wouldn't take them. I told her to give a donation to Airedale Rescue rather than pay me. She did. That was good. |
Hi,I have given many away but also try to sell some.I also have bins full,lol-really

With the exception of a few made as gifts, I am hanging them all in my guild's annual quilt show. We also make quilts annually for charity.

mine are gifts, donations, i sell a few, but i give most away. for every one i sell i give away 6.
I have given ALL of mine away so far, but am in the process of making one for me and the hubby, a Cathedral Windows quilt all done by hand. It may take me a few years to complete, but it'll be worth it when I get it done. I've made more baby quilts than any other size, but have been making some larger sizes lately. I also make lap robes for Hospice patients and try to get 25-30 of these made per year.
I use mine as decorations (wall hangings), only one queen sized quilt for my bed. I've made for my kids, there rooms when they were kids and grandkids. I've made a lot of Christmas presents this year. I take a picture of everyone I've ever made and have them in a little photo album, and I'm starting to run out of room.
I give away the majority of my quilts - either to friends and family, or I have just finished a couple to donate to the local CASA.
I have kept a few for myself - two tabletoppers and a couch throw. But I'm working on a bed quilt for myself now. I do have a photo album, and once in awhile I like to look at my "babies". |

Most have been given away - but I take pictures first for my album.
All of my completed quilts have been gifts. Most of my UFO's are also designated as gifts. I have one that I'm trying to claim, but DD insists it needs to be hers...I told her she'll get it eventually anyway! LOL!
I kept 1, gave away several baby quilts as gifts, made many from my stash for QFK, made 2 for my parents. I'm starting a hexagon quilt in blue white & yellow for my cottage. Maybe I'll make one for my husband.
so far they are all for giving and for my kids. i'll probably sell some eventually, when i have too many of my own around. i have yet to make one for myself though so it won't be for a while.
It is about 50/50. Half I make for my childern and the othe rhalf for friends or as donation. there is a small precentage I do for consignment. This offsets some of my quilt money spending but not way enough.
I have made many as gifts, all babies born in the family have one. I make a lot for Linus, and the rest that I cannot part with are either used as snuggle quilts in the living room or folded away in a cupboard, and only brought out occaisionally. I do take a picture of each one and keep them in an album, although there are some that I have given as gifts that I have forgotten to take a picture of.
Gave a couple to charity, made both DDs 2 each & one for each of 3 Grkids. All were full to K size.Have made shams to match for DDs, a ton of sofa pillows & a lot of throws/wall hangings for myself.
No longer do bed size quilts(have one last K size for LA quilter).Sofa throws are it & also do a lot of miniatures.Mine are used as table toppers, folded in an antique trunk, hanging from wall racks, on back of chairs & sofas.....folded at foot of bed.I just like looking at them. Also have a quilt rack in bedroom......so surrounded by quilts :-) |
Mine get claimed usually before they are finished.
I just love going to my DS, DD, and DS homes and seeing my wares displayed. |
Mine are given to my family and friends.
Mine hang on the stair railing, are folded and draped over the bed in one of my guest rooms and stuffed in the closet.
I THINK I'm making another that we'll keep and use as lap quilt in TV room. But someone in family might sneak it away.
I make things and give them away just for no special reason. Example: I made one of my fellow teachers an Ohio State bag last week. She was so happy. No money is worth that excitement. I really try to teach my students the joy of "Random acts of kindness".
I used to make quilts as gifts and also to use and hang in my house. About 3 years ago, I joined a quilt ministry and any quilt we make within the group goes to a pediatric unit in a local hospital. The fun of knowing that I can take a tutorial off this message board and make 3 or 4 small lapquilts from the pattern and have a place to give them away when they're finished makes all the difference in how creative I've become. I also photograph each quilt as I put the last stitch in the binding with the pictures in an album. It is nice to look back at your body of work.
Have given away lots of them, sold a few, make a donation quilt every year for a Navy reunion group.. have quite a few here for us to use.. I love them.. the more they are used the softer and sweeter they are (to a point)..
Just had one returned to me... My dear MIL's.. I made her one the first year we were married.. 40+ years ago.. I have it again, she passed away a few weeks ago.. It's sad to have it back again. |
