What do you do when????
 

What do you do when you are making a quilt for someone and you hate the fabrics they have chosen??? I am having a hard time working on it since I think they are ugly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just keep on going..I am making it for their pleasure..not mine. I just finished a quilt for one of my grandsons that grew on me as I worked on it..I dreaded making it, and now actually think what he picked worked out to be one of the best I've done..This week taking the next grand out to shop and pick her fabric...It means so much more when they get some input

Just sew. The look on their face when it is done will make it worth it. I did a very ugly one for my son in the colors he wanted and he loves it.

I made a black/red/white D9P for my grandson not knowing his favourite colour is blue. Ok......took him shopping to get blue fabrics and an accent colour of his choice. Figured I couldn't go wrong if he chooses the fabrics, right? His accent colour is yellow, the colours go together but I don't like yellow at all. Every time I work on that quilt all I see is yellow. I will be happy to see it go out the door. He loves it. Go figure.

I'm sorry, I would have declined making that particular quilt in those colors. I quilt to make ME happy! I don't work in colors I think are ugly. I am not a brown lover, tan is OK Burnt Orange, but I just cannot bring myself to work in Browns. Once in a while I can find a brownish yellowish piece that can be incorporated. But I only can make patchwork quilts anyway. Sorry if I offended anyone who loves Brown...My sister loves it, I don't.

Often quilts look so much better when done. Keep an open mind. when I get in a rut, I make a schedule to work on a quilt (maybe 20-30 minutes/day) and before I know it, I am done.

The first BIG quilt I made was for my daughter. Figured if I was going to all the $$ and time to make it for her, she needed to pick the colors. After all, it was going to her house, not mine. So I had her send me paint chips in the colors she wanted. (we live 5 hours from each other). Then, after consulting with her, I picked the fabric. Wouldn't have been my first choice(s) of colors. Still, I throughly enjoyed making it. The colors grew on me mainly because I knew she was going to be happy. Sure enough.. she was! Guess for me, quilting gifts is about making the other person happy.

Maybe you'll grow to like it as you go along. Stranger things have happened!! :eek:

I feel your pain. :) I'm working on a KING size quilt for a very good friend, and I'm not particularly fond of most of the fabric nor the pattern. It's taking a LONG time - not just because of the size, but because of the above. I've started calling it the "hesitant quilt." LOL. I'm sure it'll be beautiful when it's done, just getting there is kind of a drag. I am liking it a little more as it goes together though...
