You make string quilts using a background square, then sew a strip diagonally across it, then add another strip sewing on the right or left edge covering the first strips stitch pulling the strip over what you just sewed. Keep doing until you get your back ground square finished. This works good expecially on bias binding to help contain the stretch.

Use it on a foundation string quilt. We use ours for a scrappy string quilt.

I usually don't have too much left over but I save them and have used them for scrappy bindings and also as trim on a bag or even the strap for small purses and wallets.

I been saving mine for some reason. Someday there will be a quilt with a 'memory' binding on it, sample lengths of all the leftover bindings going all around it!

I cut it into 12-18 inch pieces, run a decorative stitch down the middle and use them as book markers. With Christmas coming up, they make perfect stocking gifts for all the book worms out there. I, also, made them in colored sets for bible study groups. Everyone seems to love them.

I use them to bind pot holders.

When I make a quilt for a child, I deliberately make the binding multi-colored, using colors from the quilt. I think it ties the whole quilt, binding together.

Cool ideas! I might have to get a jar or two and put my leftover binding in it for a sewing room decoration.

Id have to have one HUGE jar to keep mine in one! I keep them in the large rubbermaid bin and make covered clothesline with them, then use them for bags, baskets or rugs
