Now I love free, but I guess my library is on the small side. After discovering audiobooks, it only took me a couple of years to go through everything I would want to listen to, and believe me I stretched it! (Glad I did, discovered some authors I'd never heard of!) So, Audible is what I do now, too.

The one big advantage to living in a large county is the library. I can order books or anything from any library in the system. If I had to depend on just my small local library I would have gone through those in less than a year.
The library people know me by name, my daughter and granddaughter and I made a quilt for one of the girls that had a baby. I go there A LOT. :-) |
We have sirius satellite radio. If no one is home I listen to Classic Country , 50's, 60's, 70's. Hank William, Dottie West, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Eddy Arnold, the list goes on and on. People say "oh, all the songs are so sad" but it's great music and it makes me happy and want to dance.

I listen to audio books from the library. Not only can I check out cassette and CD books, my local library has free downloads through overdrive media.

Does anyone know any good links to free audiobooks? i'd like to listen to them while sewing.
I also TiVo quilting shows such as the Fons and Porter one, Sewing with Nancy, and a couple of others. I then play them back when I'm in my sewing room. |
The TV is on 18 out of 24 hours a day! Most of the time my back is to it so I do more listening than watching.

I usually have something going, either the radio (NPR) or TV. After I really get into sewing I usually am not really listening, it has the advantage of being able to listen to the reruns over and over.

I always have audio books that I get from the library. They're usually mysteries, but sometimes sagas and romance. I also listen to some of my favorite Christian speakers like Bill Johnson (from Redding, CA) and Kay Arthur, by way of the internet.
