Paper piecing definitely lends itself to some beautiful blocks as you have seen in the posts here on this thread. I have not done a whole lot of PP but I agree that it does get a little easier the more you do it. I don’t hate it...It’s sort of like doing a puzzle.

I tried PP numerous times and gave up until I found the Peggy Martin class on Craftsy. She teaches Strip Cut PP and it completely makes sense to me. With this method you never have to wonder if you have covered your edges and you can do a number of blocks at a time.
Here are a few things I've done using this technique.

I'm going to try to post a couple of pics of my kimono quilt, with the help of a nice lady, Rose. Thanks, Rose. This quilt was for a very dear friend, who unfortunately was diagnosed with stomach cancer shortly before I delivered it to her, it is now in Japan with her brother and his family.

A very nice lady on the board, Rose, told me how to post pics, but I must have done something wrong, since they didn't show up, but if you go here: https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...ks-t20318.html, you'll see a few blocks that I had done. Unfortunately, my friend didn't live very much longer after I delivered the completed quilt to her, and the quilt is now in Japan with my friend's brother and his family.

These are just a few I have in the computer. The picture ones I purchased or used a free pattern from designers. The non pictures I made the pattern (though sometimes from pictures)

I love paper piecing, I always end up giving them away. They have some good classes on Craftsy that really help. Watch for a sale or try their monthly thing free for first month and see if it is worth it to you. Have done nice quilts in good time with them.

That Rooster is awesome!

I have only purchased 1 pattern and was glad I did. This rooster is an Ann Shaw pattern and she does a good job explaining.

I am terrified of it. All the demonstrations seemed too confusing for me. Even the people doing it would check and double check if they had things lined up correctly. It seemed very tedious and time-consuming. There are beautiful results, but I am too nervous to handle something like that.

I did not know how to pp until I joined the FW quilt group and managed to teach myself (with bad habits, I think) and enjoy doing it. Laura A. Hird had a disk with the patterns on the first book that connected to EQ7, printing out the block, templates and pp. I printed out the templates to cut each piece for paper piecing pattern for each block. I traced the pp pattern lines on the back side, so could paste the fabric piece in the correct spot and sew from the back side. A 12 x 12 glass set in a 'frame' with small legs on it so small counter lights could light up the underneath and show the lines on the glass top. The tubes of school paste glued each fabric piece in place for me to sew in the correct order of number sequence. It worked for me, and I am still enjoying that way today. It works for me. But I feel like I am back in kindergarten of quilting classes when I look at all the beautiful blocks and quilts show in this topic discussion. My hat is off the their beautiful work they have shown here. Wow! .

The quilts being shown are fabulous!!!
I just ordered the Sawtooth Cats pattern- I have to make it!!!! :)

I just bought the fabric this morning to make a paper pieced heart quilt for a Valentine gift. I've been watching YouTube today to figure out how to paper piece. Looks like a lot of work. That ROSE QUILT is now on my To Make list! Beautiful!

I love paper piecing, the thing I love most is how precise your blocks turn out. The only ruler I use for paper piecing is an Add-a-quarter ruler for trimming. A friend (who owned a quilt shop) came to a mini-guild meeting and showed us how to do it - the project was a small 5x5 inch block which I then added a border to and use as a pot holder. I find classes to be rather expensive, I’d rather spend the money on fabric. But I do love to try new techniques. I have a good collection of books and magazines so I can always find something new to try. Joining a guild is also a great way to improve your quilting skills.

My first paper pieced quilt

Any block can be converted to a paper pieced block - like this log cabin baby quilt.

This is about 6x6”. I’m not sure I could have achieved the sharp points if I hadn’t paper pieced it.

I googled Paper Pieced Rose - and, wow! found a bunch of designs I'd love to try!

Thank you for the warning! I most likely will not heed it, though!

OhCanada- Your work is spectacular!!!! Wow, I can't believe your first one. They are fab!

I agree with Geri B. PP (not English PP which is done by hand but foundation PP) seems a bit complicated and fussy for one's first exposure to quilting. $30 for a pattern seems very expensive as well, unless all the pre printed papers were included. And I'm not one for specialty rulers but if the class was geared to using it, the rest of the participants would be held up while the instructor tried to show someone how to achieve the same effect with a regular ruler.

all that said, I do love PP. I do precut shapes but not the way Judy N. teaches. The biggest downfall to most beginner PP is not having the fabric piece big enough for a specific shape, especially when it is an odd angle. I rough cut my angles from strips and have had amazing success doing it that way. Although I do have some waste I have fine tuned it to be minimal.

Here are examples of PP quilts I have made:
This is Agave Garden, a Judy Niemeyer pattern

This is Saw Tooth Cats by City Stitcher

And this is a Mariners Compass I designed myself using instructions from Judy Mathieson on how to draft MC blocks and do a different technique of PP using freezer paper and not stitching through the paper.

WOW!! Amazing work and no doubt you FMQ cuz I've seen your work up close and personal. These are phenomenal..geesh!

All of the quilts shown are breathtaking. So much talent and artistry...In awe...

OMG.. you ladies as so talented. I love each and every quilt that is posted. I hope to be as good as you ladies are. I also like all the helpful tips I have gotten. I am going to work on my Goldies Fish quilt slowly. Right now I have to make a receiving blanket and a quilted table cover by next Thursday. lol. Today I am going to a place called the Quilting Barn, this lady had made over 450 quilts and they are all on display. She also sells fabric etc. I have made a few 10 minute runners for Christmas gifts last year. Those were fun and easy. I just started to so again after 30 years. Please keep posting your pictures of your projects.

I took the time to learn how to PP when I wanted to do the blocks in the Farmer's Wife 1930's book. I went through the whole book of blocks and by the time I had finished PP was no big deal anymore. Now I am doing the FW Pony Club blocks.

That being said, PP is not my favorite technique. I'd much rather cut the exact size pieces I need and sew them together (traditional piecing).
