There's something on my iron and it doesn't always come off but, when I really don't want it to sure enough it gets on my fabric. What do you use to clean your iron?

I fuse for applique and get glue on my iron. It comes off easy by ironing a used dryer sheet!

Someone mentioned using Mr. Clean Magic Erasers the other day.

Is the bottom teflon? I use glass cleaner believe it or not and it keeps it nice and clean.

I used some iron cleaner that we found at WM. You empty the water out of the iron, put it on its hottest setting, apply the stuff on a clean washcloth, and rub the iron all over the paste. Then you wipe it on a clean spot on the washcloth and the iron is clean. I had scrubbed the iron with several different products and could never get everything off, but this stuff worked great.

I also use dryer sheets.

I really like - Iron- OFF , its sold at JoAnns. I tend to be a bit careless with my iron and fusibles. No matter what I always manage to get some on the iron. This stuff always gets off what ever I manage to get it into.

Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner is the best I have ever used.

Do you have a teflon iron? I don't and I'm pretty sure that a dryer sheet is what's stuck to mine. :?:

frarose 03-05-2011 08:53 AM

I clean mine like my mother use to but not sure if it is right. I don't have teflon but have stainless steel. I use newspaper and put salt on it and rub it in the salt to remove the gook then I take wax paper sheets and rub my iron over them to get the smooth back. I have been doing this forever and never thought there was anything different. But now that you all talk about this other stuff mayber when I have to get a new iron I won't do this method.

Boy, do I feel silly, I just bought a new iron.... I didn't think you could clean them, shoot... Of course, mine was puking lime out and somehow I don't think any dryer sheet would help with that!! I know people say CLR to clean the lime out but man that stuff stinks!!! Did it to a coffee pot once and I ended up throwing that thing away too!! I just buy the cheap ones now.
