If you get a magazine with a template in it, what do you use to trace the template on and then cut around? I was thinking about just using a cerial box but I am sure I would slice it when I went to cut with the rotary!

How do you use a template from a magazine?
I know how to use one but...ya know what I mean!

Thank you!

I have used plastic cutting mats, plastic from the front of poster frames and even floor tiles, how about the cover from a oleo tub, cardboard works too you just have to be careful.

I use the plastic sheets you can get in packages for stencils and pattern templates...it's inexpensive and if you have a package it lasts for a while.

I photo copy it and go from there... i can then cut it out without ruining my magazine!

you can buy template material, which is clear plastic. I use it all the time.

Sometimes I use freezer paper, sometimes the plastic lid from my coffee container, and I've bought the sheets of plastic for making the stencils. It saves me ruining my fabric by cutting into the center or something like that.

Coordination is not my middle name so I use whatever will keep me from ruining the fabric. I also copy the pattern with my printer/scanner and then cut it out of whatever I'm using that day.

Just be sure you label it with Magazine, pattern, date, and keep them for future use. I have a whole notebook full of patterns and templates.

I was able to get a whole stack of used x-ray film sheets from a doctor's office. (repurpose!)

I use the templet plastic with the grids on it. But, I have also used paper and just taped it to the back of my ruler for quick cutting it out. It depend on whether I have to match the fabric to piece it correctly, or not. The plastic gives you the viewing of the block after you cut it out better. And lets you see where the quarter inch seam will cut it off in the design.
