Sometimes some hand rubbing the areas together has been needed. I have generally only had 'tops' to deal with at that point and could usually manage them in the sink. If larger, use the bathtub. Fill with warm water/dish soap. Let soak for a bit, do some rubbing if needed. After wringing out as much water as possible, I lay towels then the piece on top and roll to absorb as much extra water as possible. Then air dry on an indoor clothes drying rack. If after all of that the marks are still there - enjoy the charm and memory of having your mom's work.

Back when those old blocks were printed, we used detergent to do laundry, so removal was usually easier. Now we have soaps full of "cleaning enzymes" so they do not clean the same. Dish soap in a dish diluted with 1/2 water, and about 1/8th cup pump hairspray and a soft baby toothbrush might be a better solution. Good luck.

I quilted a quilt for my MIL that she had cross-stitched 30 years ago...I got lucky because there was blue in the flowers so I used blue thread to quilt with and that mostly hid those dots/lines that will not go away!

If the quilt blocks were ironed, that could be the problem
