If I weighed a ziplock bag of fabric and it weighs 1 pound - what would that work out to be in yards, approximately?

I googled and one site said 1 pound of scraps would equal about 1 1/2 yards. It would also depend on the thickness of each fabric.

I have 5 pounds of batik scraps coming and just wondered what that would work out to be in yardage (approximately).. I cannot wait until it gets here! It will be a wonderful late Christmas present to me, from me <grin>

Had a great laugh about your message. Is that a sewing thing or a female thing.....to buy yourself a little Christmas present? I do the same thing, usually a yard or two of a material that I wouldn't normally spend that much on.

Enjoy your fabric!!

Enjoy your gift from you to you!! I also like to do my own shopping, I never have to return anything.

LOL - I love doing my own shopping - but I also like surprising myself so I buy fabric scraps or sample headers. Even though I know it is fabric inside, I don't know what the fabric looks like -

Its commonly accepted that a pound has about 3 yards of quilting weight cotton fabric. Some thinner cheaper fabrics might get 4 yards in a pound I guess. Some of the heavier greige goods might end up a tad under 3 yards a pound, but I think 3 yards is pretty standard for quality quilting cottons.

when I mail out one yard of fabric, it's weighs anywhere from 6 to 7 ounces usually.
