Okay here's mine. :D It's a room right off the kitchen--about 8' by 12'. I cut on the kitchen table. It was where we kept the change table, then the computer. Once we moved the computer to the family room when the kids were older  it became my sewing room! Like my husband says, it's really too small to do much else with. Our house is over 180 years old and has a unique design. :D

I know the photos won't post in order  so I'll explain. From the kitchen you'll see the cutting mat hanging on the door to the left--and a very old wooden ladder holding strips. The ironing board is just to the right. Once in the room, a right turn has you facing the sewing machine and stash closet. On your right--opposite the ironing board is a bookshelf with extra ragged flannel squares and other fabrics for works in progress. Books are on the bottom shelf. I added a view inside the stash closet.

I loved visiting everyone's sewing space. I felt at home in every picture. My sewing space is a spare bedroom, nothing grand but it's all mine!

I moved into my house in September and decided that what was advertised as the master bedroom would be my sewing/stash/office room... so, in looking at all your pictures I'm getting a big case of the 'oh, thats a great idea' thoughts...

Thank you for sharing

Oh, to have a sewing room. My sewing room is my bedroom. Do you suppose if I'm REAL good this year, Santa will have his elves build an addition on the house???? :? Never hurts to ask!

Thanks for all those great pics!

I am hooked on quilting and want and convince myself I need everything I see, so I try not to look!

Oh, Vicki, I knew we were kindred sisters!!! I have the same problem, I've now filled two walls in my bedroom with shelves about 20 inches from the ceiling with baskets filled with fat quarters. (bridge to the bed coming soon) because my youngest son moved back in to help me with Roy so I lost my sewing room. But I had shelves, I have two large drawered plastic containers, I have boxes under my bed (roller type) and I have one end of my dresser with books, a silver ware divided basket for my tools, pencils, square rule, etc. Then on the back of my bedroom door I've put some of those flexible (easily moved) hooks for my rules and stencils. Oh, and i have a full size (to big) book case with fabric, irons, spray starch, books, magazines, water bottle, etc. on my other wall by the chest of drawer.

I'd be much happier if I didn't have to have the dresser and chest of drawers in here, then I could add another book shelf for fabric. Do we really need clothes for more than shopping? I could live in pjs and slippers while sewing/quilting............but my Mom would KILL me if I went shopping in pjs like so many folks I see in stores now.

I've just been to buy more fabric for two special quilts for my great nephew and niece. Mom came Saturday and was looking at the two I'd made their newest brothers, so no way was I going to get away with that. Two more......right now, please!!

Do you think I like quilting??? BTW you can NEVER have to much quilting stuff unless your name is Moderator Patrice! Now she should really really have her own LQS, but not until I finish all my shopping.

Hugs,
Sharon

My cutting table. About 36" x 50". It's as high as kitchen counters - so nice for cutting and basting smaller quilts. Storage for mats and rulers underneath.

I still end up basting queen/king sized quilts on the diningroom table.

My husband built the tables for my sewing room for me for Christmas last year! My fabric is all stored in the attic.

I really appreciate the pics of small spaces! I've been able to find pictures online, and have looked at books, for dedicated sewing rooms, but don't have one or the $ that must have gone into the furnishings for many of them. It's nice to see how creatively people are using tiny spots.

My sewing area is in my family/computer room, which opens into the kitchen. Wish I could say it's neat, but that would be dishonest. Clean, yes; neat, no. I'm slowly moving some things into our older dd's room (she is grown & gone). No plans to move in there, as I like being where everything/one is rather than secluded at the other end of the house. But I am moving some of my things in there, including most of my stash, just so it's tidier out here. The lighting in there is awful, so I frequenlty bring a bunch of things out here, then drag them back.

But, as someone else said - I have a home with a roof over my head (and over my toys), a sewing machine, and that's a lot more than many have, especially right now. So I'll try to be grateful for what I have, and use it more creatively.

I guess I'd say I'm actually more comfortable with a bit of clutter around me. That sounds a little odd... But I'll also say that I just saw pictures of the first sewing room I wouldn't want to play in! Neat, sure, I'll adjust. Tiny, no problem, that's cozy. Messy, okay, just pile everything and get me to the important stuff. But RATS and SNAKES??? YIKES!! And I thought I was pretty flexible...

My space is not near as neat as the ones that i was looking at, I have been in here since the end of Nov and no where near organized. It is a disaster and it isn't because I am short of space, it is the garage and it is 17x32 ft. There is still more boxes to move in and the dune buggy to move out.

I took pictures with my new digital camera but havnt figured out how to get to them in HP photosmart. It wont give me a link.
I am single so use the master bedroom for my quilting. My best investments are a JOanns cutting table and a Bertha sewing table with a lift for my big Viking sewing mach. Both are necessities. I even pin my quilts on the cutting table by doing them in sections. Cant get down on the floor anymore.

Rose Marie 02-11-2009 10:20 AM

It worked hooray.

Wow, it is so great looking at other peoples sewing spaces. Like others here I have a small corner in my main bedroom and am very grateful for it. I have the benefit of having a bed which has space for storage underneath and I have washing baskets which just slide out with material etc in them. This method has worked for most of my crafts over the years. I have now graduated to having one book case so I can have some stuff out and it is lovely. Meanwhile I drool over the lovely spaces here and dream one day I too will have my own space - but still I can sew with or without that space. Thanks for sharing everyone.
