What domestic sewing machine has the largest throat?
I was just reading pocoellie's post "I want a new sewing machine" where someone said they wanted a machine with larger throat. That made me wonder what dms does have the largest throat. The Juki HZL-DX7 measures 8" long x 4.4".

My Bernina 830LE has 12 inches to the right of the needle.

Babylock Crescendo has 11" to the right of the needle.

Harp on Juki TL2010Q is 9 inches long x 6 inches high: total of 54 square inches. Some machines have harp that is 11 inches long but only 4.5 inches high, which gives you total of 49.5 square inches. I really think you have to consider the length and the height of the harp.

I never needed a wider throat that my Bernina give me whihc is 6.5". I won many awards with this machine.

I think the viking epic is 13'

My Brother has a 11 inch throat

The juki's in general have the largest we measured. The other makes depends on the specific model.

i do know that the newer, introductory machines have a very small harp and i can't imagine trying to make some of the clothes i did on those machines.

Janome 8900 has 11 inches to the right and is a dream to FMQ with.

Thank you ManiacQuilter2! You give me hope! I am just starting to concentrate on my topstitching and struggling with a learning curve and a 6.5in Pfaff.

to lift. I have had it for 5 months now & love it (not the price though). I had the Bernina 820 & it has some wonderful features but we just did not click. Loved the bigger bobbin but it comes with a finicky temperament. The bobbin on the Epic is also larger (not finicky like the Bernina) but not as large as the Bernina. I do believe the Epic does have the largest throat of the DMS on the market, that I know of at least. I could be wrong. |
I think you're correct.
