Kona cotton is sold at my local Bernina quilt shop at $7.99 and 45" wide per yard. Kona muslin, the 108" wide, is in the muslin section at Joann. I find them very similar.

Nothing wrong with muslin, I use is for backing, and background material, and I've seen some even dye it. That's muslin in my avatar picture.

I also use muslin all the time, I use it for quilt piecing, for the back of quilts, for crafts, etc. I love to use muslng.

What is crayon fabric tinting? Inquiring minds want to know!

I buy Moda muslin by the bolt and use it when I am trying to replicate a 1930's feel. In general, I prefer pretty, colorful, printed fabrics that I can get as cheaply as muslin. Why go with plain if I don't have to?

I use muslin for backings of wall hangings because no one will see the back and I use it to sew down my pretty material for crazy quilts. JoAnns has different thread counts. They seem to have very nice smooth muslin.

Many of my quilts are backed with muslin and the quilts are so light, soft and comfy. I think many just prefer to use the pretty fabrics for their backs as they feel it gives them a more finished look. It is definitely a more contemporary look but I'm more of a traditional patchwork hand quilter by choice.

OK, for those of you keeping up with my surgery situation I just got back from the doctor. All went well. I got my stitches out and was told everything is healing like it should. No clearance to get back to sewing yet. I was told to wait at least 4 more weeks and maybe 6. Bummer!!! You all are going to have to pick up my slack for me, lol!

In my opinion there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with muslin. I have even used my Joann's coupon to buy a bolt of the better-quality muslin to have on hand. I use it for redwork, in my 1930's repro fabric quilts, and a Civil War quilt. Lots of uses for it. And remember, if it feels right and looks right to you ... it must be right!!!

I have not used it before because I assumed the quality and sturdiness was not as good. Thanks to all of you for your input. I'll try it myself.
