Take a yard and a half of fabric and unfold it.......take another yard and a half of a coordinating fabric and cut it lenghwise and also at the fold which gives you 4 pieces for the border. Place the border pieces on the length sides first then the top and the bottom and you got a quilt top. Tie it or quilt it and bind it and wala. I've completed one of these in 12 hours before.
It was a marathon 12 hours....it was a last minute birthday gift for my 90 year old aunt and her birthday party was the next day......lol. |

this is a rag quilt that I cut out on day 1 and finished it on day2.

I would suggest quilt in a day! It is total reverible, because you quilt as you go.you can get a throw done in about 8 hrs. That is cutting fabric, batting, and sewing together!! It was the first quilt I made, and also my at the time 8 yr old son made!!
|
OK found it. Check out this site
http://www.sewvac1.com/Library/serger_baby_quilt.htm The only thing I change is I use 6 in. for the width of each strip. |
I like Eleanor Burns' 9 Patch Toss. It looks like you've put a lot of work into it but it's so fast and easy.
|
Easiest one I've done was the first one I did. It had black and white nine patches alternating with red solid blocks that were the same size as the nine patches.
|
what a great fun quilt and soo easy..I will have to try this. I like to do quilts that are not always matching seams and points. very pretty!
|
E.Burns has a book on Irish Chain that is nice.

The easiest and quickest quilt to make are squares of at least 6 x 6 in. squares, sometimes same size batting included inbetween, depending on the thickness of the material. It's the shag quilt. You sew big X's in the middle between the two squares, leaving 1/2 inch on the edges, which you clip to make it shaggy and it's so quick. You can make it as big as you want. Here's one I made for my new granddaughter. Hope this helps.

This was an easy, no brainer. I love jelly rolls.
Fall Strips |
The easiest ones I make are string quilts. Just sew long scrap strips together onto a square muslin base . Then sew the squares all together in a pleasing design. I don't even put a border on them. They're pretty enough without borders. The best part of it is that you get to use up a lot of scraps. 8-)

I am currently making up wall hangings and full size quilts for seasonal decor. Of course, I have already over committed myself for Christmas gifts. I will make 2 queen size Cmas quilts with a bit more hand work in them ie one machine quilted and one hand appliqed and hand quilted. Plus some other stuff.
|
I found a patten called 4-square plus. And quickly made three for Christmas. Have been looking for the Yellow Brick Road Pattern. Were can I find it??

strip piecing scraps on foundation

I found the D9 very easy I did it with 5 inch strips as a mystery for our guild. We had a lot of new quilters and did it with 3 colors everyone was so pleased with them and they sure look like more work than they are. I have 5 grandaughters and 6 grandsons that I am hoping to make them as Xmas gifts for .
|
a pinwheel quilt i did was the easiest one i can remember
|
Old fashioned string quilt! Fun, fast, and uses small scrappy strips up!
|
I agree - the disappearing 9 patch. Super easy and looks like you put in hours. There is also a pattern out there called "Come Climb with Me". It is a freebie but can't remember which site. Try to google it and it should come u

dissappearing 9 patch, tube quilt or good old ramdom patch
|
Rail fence. Any size. Press your seam allowances in opposite directions when joining blocks. COuldn't be easier.
|
My first quilt was a strip quilt. My mother showed me how. I sewed the strips on newspaper and then took the paper off. I was so proud of it at the time. Now I look at it and see and the mistakes I made. But it's special to me because my mother helped me.

Thank You thank you thank you for all of these incredible ideas! I hope this can help other new quilters too!

I fussy cut some princesses and alternated them with four patch blocks. My DGD loved it and it was so fast and easy.
|
I love the Yellow Brick Road pattern. Clear cutting directions and easy piecing with no seams to match up.

This scrappy version of Marcía's Sunny Lanes was very easy to make, and I did the 2" squares as my starters & enders for a long time before actually stitching it together.
