How do you decide what to put on the quilt label? Should you include washing instructions? I put the name of the person I am making it for and my name but should I also include the city where we live? Do you always give your quilt a name? Do you date the quilt according to when you finish it? If it's for a special occassion do you include that as well? I'm pretty new to this but I don't want to weigh down the quilt with too much information.

Made for...name..., made by (been told you should include your maiden name as well) Date (month/year is enough IMHO) and my city/state.

So many guidelines to this question and you should also take into consideration, the size of the quilt. My labels can be on the large size if I do them on my embroidery machine and on these I put my name, date and who it's intended for.
I make address size labels on my ink jet printer that work fine with small quilts and my stuffed animals.
The larger quilts that I sale I hand write my initials and date only on the bottom right hand corner of the quilt in fabric marker.
I usually just verbally share the washing instructions - a gentle cold water wash and low temp dryer or hang dry but I never make a label to state that. As you mentioned, it would certainly weigh it down a lot more if I did.
Good luck in finding what works for you.

I sent one to a friend today that said " With this quilt, I thee hug", then I just added my name and date. I put care information and other thoughts on a seperate card.

the scrappy quilt I sent her. I don't feel it needed anymore than that.

I was told the info on the quilt should be what you would want on the quilt when you find this tuck away in a safe spot in a hundred years. You don't just want to know who made it. It's so interesting to find out all the info you can about old quilts and labels help with this. Some old quilts the info was embroidered right on the front, incorporated into the design.
