What feet will work for sewing in a zipper?
I don’t sew zippers very often and would rather not buy a zipper foot. I have a Bernina. What other feet can you use to sew in a zipper?
I will buy it if there aren’t good alternatives. |
didn't your machine come with a zipper foot?
most do. check your manual. if it didn't, then i would advise buying one. nothing works as well for zippers as a proper zipper foot. |
Yes, you need a zipper foot to avoid frustrations and struggles.

I, too, would be very surprised if your machine did not come with a zipper foot. That is usually a basic for all machines.

The Bernina zipper foot is #4 and I can't imagine that you don't have it. It is the most basic after the #1 foot.
|
Which Bernina do you have Darcy? I may have a spare or two. I'm also in Portland. If you need to purchase one, go to the aftermarket if you can. Bernina values their feet very highly.

You must have a zipper foot in order to sew up near the teeth. It just puts all the "foot" part on one side or the other, so you can sew near to the teeth. They are so necessary and helpful when sewing zippers.

I must admit that after I had my Pfaff for a while I needed a zipper foot and could not see one. Called the dealer to ask about it. She then gave me the number and described what it looked like and sure enough I did have it. Just didn't recognize it as a zipper foot. It works really well, once I found it. Kind of embarrassing:)

I don't have a Bernina, but my machine has many feet including a zipper foot. Even so, I often use my quarter inch foot to put a zipper in.
Edited to add - may be try a zipper with scraps vs the good project and see how it goes? |
Thank you all, I have been gone for a while due to winter illness but on the mend. I will look through my feet and thank you for telling me the foot number. I probably do have one but don’t know it.
