I have found two churches thrift stores that sell clothing for $4 per bag. I roll the shirts and can get 15 in a bag. 25 cents each. You get a lot of fabric. Not all usable. I look for men's shirts and ladies cotton dresses and skirts. Men's 2x and 3x shirts are the best. Lots of fabric there.

Lauriejo, I simply adore your avatar. I don't need a mirror in the morning anymore as I read this message board first thing in the morning, with my coffee. It's 5.45 am. here.

It's like that here too for prices and I just thought it was us here in AK--we pay more for most everything.

Sadly it's 10:45 pm here and I look the same, coffee doesn't seem to have helped. LOL

I've never bought shirts specifically for fabric, but I have taken apart shirts I'd made and outgrown, DH's shirts, my children's clothing, even grandchildren's clothing. I'm picky about the type of fabric I will "upcycle" cotton only for quilts.

I think you are correct there is no rhyme or reason to their pricing. Some of the stores had gone kinda CRAZY on their prices. Considering they get the stuff for FREE and no longer even have to launder it as they did in the past theprices around here have gone thru the roof. In these economic times people need help and their prices are way out of proportion to the Unemployment rate. J J

At our Goodwill store, mens shirts are $3.99 and up. Also mens neckties are $1.99 each. So compared to the price of new fabric at local fabric store, I would rather get the new stuff. Besides with "bed bugs" in almost everything now, I don't trust the stuff from the Goodwill or any other thrift store.

Our town has a resale shop and once in a while they have a $1 bag sale. Goodwill here, shirts start at $2.99. I don't go there. I stock up on clothes when they are in clearance($2 and under)...and they are new. Kohls has some great sales on their clearance and so does JC Penny(Sometimes their stuff is marked down to .97)

I guess I am paranoid, but I would not buy fabrics of any kind from a thrift shop. From what I have read here, you'd do better buying fabrics on sale than trying to disassemble a shirt for the fabric. Hobby Lobby has nice fabrics for sale usually at 30% off.
