What is homespun fabric?
I saw this free pattern today that looks pretty simple and fun to make. It uses homespun fabric. I'm guessing because it frays easily. What is it?
http://www.sewing.org/html/blossom_rag_quilt.html It looks kind of like dishtowels. |
It's loosely woven fabric and it does make wonderful rag quilts.

Bernie, can I find it at Joann's? Is it labeled "homespun". Is it cotton or what?
|
It's a woven fabric, and each 'thread' is color - so the color is on the front and back of the fabric (as opposed to a "printed" fabric). Most homespuns are plaids. The weave is typically much looser.

Ok, thanks Bernie and DoghouseMom. Have you ever made a quilt like this? I've seen something similar where they use chenille or flannel or something and do all the steps at once. I don't think they even put batting in it.

I have also never heard of homesun fabric and am wondering if I could use table clothes from a thrift store. How would I know the difference?
