Hey, you're in my back yard! I love doing the cakes, but getting harder as I get older.

Yes, noticed that you are in Glenmoore, so thought you would recognize Kennett Square. I may be one of the few on the Quilter's Message Board who actually have been in Glenmoore :)

I hope you didn't blink. Kennett Square is a huge city by comparison.

Well, you are just the "funnest" grand! Great cake!

The cake is really great but I think that the best part is that he invited you to go with them to the rock climbing place. Must be wonderful to have that kind of relationship with your DGS!

Jeanniebelle 03-06-2011 06:12 AM

Awesome looking cake. I wish I could do something like that but I have no talent in that area. Best wishes to you and your DGH. Jeanniebelle

I think he knew I would decline. I have been his and his brother's on-call caretaker since they were babies, and I am the one they call when they are sick. Their mother (my daughter) always worked so I always did the carting, and even helped out with school activities. They also think it is cool when I drive up to the high school in my pickup truck.

Great I am saving this for maybe when our DGS turns 17. He turned 11 just the 25th of Feb. Not into sports muc h, but that can change.
Have a great weekend!

Great story and very neat cake. Aren't family traditions just the best?

polly13 03-06-2011 01:17 PM

May you have the strength to continue making cakes for the next generation, even if they have to be scaled back a bit. That is a memory that will be talked about their whole lives.

p38flygirl 03-06-2011 01:22 PM

great job....and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your grandson...

Twisted Quilter 03-06-2011 02:12 PM

Now that's what I call a cake. Your grandson is soooo lucky!

This reminded me of a story my sister told me about her kids. When they were small she didn't have a lot of money for Easter baskets, but she alway's made sure to buy them a giant chocolate bunny. She stopped when they turned 18 & 19, stating they were getting too old. That next Easter they came in the house and wanted to know where she hid their bunny! Neither were very happy campers...It's all about family tradition.

I don't think your GS will ever be too old for grannie's cake.

stitchofclass2 03-06-2011 02:59 PM

Wow! That is one terrific cake. No wonder he feels he is never too old for his soccer cake. How was the rock climbing? Teeheehee!

WI Rose 03-06-2011 03:16 PM

Looks great!! What a nice grandmother you are.

bjnicholson 03-06-2011 03:27 PM

So...do we get "after" pictures? Was there anything left? I was thinking about it after you posted. Today I baked I had on hand. Hopes it tastes as good as yours looked!

LoriEl 03-06-2011 03:30 PM

Looks yummy! I, also, have so many pans I'll probably never use them all. I do have the bowling ball and have used it quite a few times. The doll one got used a few times but never ot to ride a racecar!

I didn't stay for the festivities so I didn't get to see the decimated cake. I use boxed mixes for the cakes. Nothing beats Betty Crocker for a moist cake. My DD made a yellow cake from scratch, and truthfully mine was moister and tasted better. I make the Wilton Buttercream frosting.

I love my kids even if they are in their 40tys we still have fun with stuff like that. Enjoy.

My daughter made a dalmation cake for her God child's 1 Birthday they still laugh at the pictures of their little black faces but more about the Black poops these 14 kids had the next day. LOL

Yeah, one year, when my youngest son turned 30, I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and he said he wanted one with black roses. He thought he was funny, but he got a cake covered in black roses. Wish I could find a pic of that one. My youngest DGD loves dogs and every year wants a dog cake. She always asks for a Gus cake. My Gus is a Rottie, so I tell her no one wants to eat a cake that is all black. So I make a Heidi cake. She is a blond Great Dane.

quiltpd 03-06-2011 04:01 PM

WOW ! My grandson would love that !

penski 03-06-2011 04:08 PM

that is one cool cake !!! im sure making this cake gave you more pleasure than quilting

craftymatt2 03-06-2011 04:15 PM

Oh what a beautiful memory, I do the same thing but not with a soccer ball, My DGS loves cupcakes made in Ice cream cones, I would make them and he would help decorate, I had all kinds of sprinkles and differant colored icing. This is how we make our memories. Your cake looks divine, I wish I could put my hand through the monitor and grab a piece.

Latrinka 03-06-2011 04:29 PM

Beautiful cake-looks yummie!!

My daughter made a wonderful cake one year and you can do it. She bought a cheap plastic truck and put a square cake in the bed. She used a can of frosting on the top to look like dirt. It was a huge hit and my grandson got to play with the truck

Grandma Peg 03-06-2011 05:03 PM

You did a grat job.

firecrackerpam 03-06-2011 05:14 PM

Oh how great that you do this for your grandkids! I used to do this for my Kids when they were little and every year they picked their cake. It is a lot of work! Great job! I know they loved it and will always talk about it when they become adults!

khlrkat 03-06-2011 05:15 PM

The cake looks good, My DGD is 10 she has been playing soccer for 5 years, and she love it too

You didn't say if you went rock climbing :)

countrycottage 03-06-2011 08:47 PM

What a darling cake! I too have lots of pans, but they no longer get used much because of my hands. I keep hoping that one of my granddaughters will get interested in cake decorating.

kattskreations 03-06-2011 09:42 PM
