What I learned about binding.

Some years ago I made my DGD two fun quilts for nap and play time. They have been washed countless times. One has frayed binding the other has still good binding. The only difference in the quilts were the pattern choices and the bindings, all the same fabrics and batting. I remember I thought the same bindings would be fine for both quilts but decided to make a different binding for one after I had already sewn the binding on. I just sewed the second binding over the first one. From now on if the quilt will get heavy use I will add a second double fold binding. She's 15 and still uses these quilts!

Here's what I came up with to help solve the top-layer-fraying on my bindings.

With the two double fold bindings I have 4 layers of binding fabric on each side. Thanks for your binding instructions. I'm going to try it your way too.

IMHO I'd rather remove the old binding and put om new. Or better yet make another quilt. I'm always looking for excuses to do that :)

I was taught to leave enough of the batting to fill your binding, and the binding won't wear out nearly as fast. I have found that to be true.
