As the other poster noted, close quilting will help reduce strain on the seams. However, with a king-size quilt there is still going to be a lot of stress on the pieced seams. Double-sewing will reinforce the seams somewhat, but it isn't a guarantee against fraying and it requires a lot of extra time.

Honestly, I'd just add more fabrics to the collection you already have. This will prevent problems with the quilt in the future.

I agree

I'm glad you have reconsidered and are using the 1/4 inch seam. It would be so sad to put all that work into a quilt just to have it pull apart.

Stick to 1/4" and add a border. I'm agreeing with everyone else--just thought I'd have you read it one more time.

I think if you had a few seams that were less than 1/4" I would say use them, but a whole quilt made with skinny seams is a risky plan. Odds are that the seams would pull apart.
