I started piece quilting after I turned 50 because a friend invited me to a BOM at a local quilt shop--it was such a great deal. You paid $5.00 for a kit for your first block. If you brought it back finished the next month, then the next block was free. I finished 12 beautiful blocks and only paid $5.00.
After that I was hooked. A couple of years ago, I did ten BOMs at the same time. Now I work on my own and don't do the BOMs anymore. I have more kits, patterns, and fabric now then I could ever use in a life time...it's fabulous!!!

Every year my DH and I always go to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge in Tenn. and always our 1st shopping stop would be the quilt shop. I told him last year I'm going to learn how to quilt. He said yeah right! You see, didn't sew and didn't even want to learn growing up. My Mom is a sewer and my Granny was a quilter. But got a pattern online and made my first quilt last fall. Traded my emerald & diamond braclet for a new sewing machine and now I'm definately hooked...

As a child, I always knew that I loved quilts, however didn't think that I would ever be able to make one. Now that I am retired, there is no stopping me. It's my addiction and I love it.

I had been sewing for myself for many years, making most of my own clothes. After I retired, I was working in the costume dept of the local university and became friends with the mother of one of the girls in the cast. I knew she was a quilter, but it didn't interest me that much. Then she asked me if I wanted to go to a quilt show with her one weekend. I did, got interested, and the next thing I knew, I was becoming a fq collector and loving it.

My husaband and daughter are both very artistic people. Although I have sewn a lot over the years, I had a friend who was in a quilt guild and I though it might be fun to go see what others were creating. I got the bug. I am a fabricaholic and a paternaholic. My husband enjoys my glee at finishing something that can be used and still be an outlet for my artistic side.
Great Hobby, Great Guy!!
