What Kind of Batting

I am wanting to make a quilt for someone who lives in Florida. Since it is warm most of the time down there what should I use for batting so it isn't too heavy?

I live in So California and I have always used Hobbs 80/20. I don't think it is as heavy as W&N. Good Luck !!

I also live in S CA and have found any of the 80/20s are good here.

I live in FL and prefer the Hobbs 80/20 in mine. The AC is on most of the year and I use my quilts year round. It handles nicely like the warm and natural, but doesn't feel so heavy on my feet.

I lived in Florida for ten years and I always used Quilter's Dream Request.

We live in south Louisiana which is also hot and muggy a lot of the year but we always have a/c and I use the quilts all year. I like warm and natural. I think maybe figure out how cool the inside is vs outside temp?

Just because someone lives in Florida, doesn't mean they don't get cold. People get acclimated to whereever they live. And many homes in Florida don't have the insulation that homes further north have. I remember being very cold in the winters in FL (also very hot in the summers). You can use the lighter weight polyester batting (low loft), if you want it to be less warm, or a cotton batting. I wouldn't use wool batting (because of allergies more than the warmth).

I use Hobbs 80/20, Quilter's Dream, a layer of flannel...depends on who'll be using the quilt. Lightweight is the key even more than warmth, especially for elders. We've already had 32 degrees for a night or two, and in the summer we can reach 90+ degrees. So it depends on who will use it and how they set the temperatures in their home. But stay with something lightweight.
