I decided to finish my Quilt Of Mistakes. It is just a 9 patch and 4 patch quilt. The nine patches run along all edges and the 4 patches are all in the body of quilt.
What kind of border can I do to zazz it up a bit? I'm doing a 4-6 inch border. I don't want to do squares lol.... |
Could you post a picture so we could better visualize a border?
added bad pics taken with cell phone
maybe it just needs a thin then wider plain border with colors to make the blocks pop????
a picture would help. |
are the pics not showing up for ya'll? I see them...

I'd probably just add a narrow dark color (is it black, blue, purple) border then another plain. I wonder if a 'busy' border will detract from the top. |
I can see the pictures. Maybe a floral border with some of the colors from the squares?
I would probably use a print with colors form the quilt---tan border first, then a print...very nice quilt
I don't know what color border but I really like the quilt! :D:D
Piano keys using all the colors would keep with the geometric genre of the quilt. Or just keep building narrow frames in all the colors until it looks finished to you.
I'd try a print with the main quilt colors in it. Floral or plaid?
is the dark square colour too much for a border?

I would do a 6+ width dark (blue) to match tonal darks, and scallop it. Then do pretty stitching in lighter thread on border to accentuate :) But I like dark, it's wonderfully moody.
I like the piano keys idea. This is my first quilt, and I'm not sure I'm up to trying scalloped edges....that frightens me! I went to the bookstore today and thumbed thru a few things, and I was intrigued by the triple rail too.
I took those pics with my cell phone at night and the colors of the quilt are different then they look. The colors are purple, gold and green. |
There are lots of borders on Quilterscache.com to give you ideas. My suggestion is to make it simple so it does not distract from the pattern. You've done a nice job, and that is what you need to show. Make it simple and plain.
not a major fan of borders unless it is also quilt patches. i like your quilt just the way it is. plain strip borders used to make the quilt larger usually doesn't add anything to the design for me. if you still have more fabric, what do you think of 1/2 square triangles? could look mighty nice.
I am actually looking at Quilt with Confidence by Nancy Zieman, and she has a section on borders where she shows a quilt made with square (square in a square) and the border is half square triangles and it looks great.
Wow I've gone from no ideas to wanting piano keys, triple rail, and half squares. My cup runneth over! |
I think it's lovely! I'd put a small orange border and then a larger purple border. The quilt is busy enough that I would just put the framing type border on.
