What kind of mat for caster sewing chair
 

I have a sewing chair with casters. My new sewing room has medium pile carpeting. I'm looking at chair mats to see what will work best for me.

For those of you with caster chairs who use floor mats on carpeting (or have used them) what brand and composition do you recommend? Where did you purchase it?

I use a piece of laminate that was used to pack the laminate that we put down. In our computer room I just use a chair mat from the Office Depot.

I don't have a mat. I have some old medium pile carpet in my sewing room and the chair seems to roll just fine.

I don't have that set up in my sewing room but do in my home office. Actually that carpet is fairly low pile, but.... I have no mat and the chair rolls just fine. In my long-ago corporate days, we usually had the typical mats from any of the name office supply stores and they work just fine as well. I suppose a lot depends on how far away from your machine you plan on rolling and how large a mat you might need. Perhaps check it out with no mat initially and see how it goes?

This is what I use because it was a leftover at the farm before I moved to the lake. When I move again later this year, I will buy a slightly longer piece of particle board and paint it before I put it at my sewing table. It works just fine for me!

I have ceramic tile in my sewing room and the chair is bumpy going over the grout lines. I use a mat from Staples, very thin and there are many colors and designs to choose from. It makes the floor smooth and the chair rolls just fine.

One bennefit to getting a standard office mat is they are specifically made for carpet because they have plactic "nubs" on the back that hold the weight of the mat and the chair more evenly and makes it easier to move the chair. The one I have is a "cheapie" that is meant for a low pile carpet, I'm going to replace it this year when the back to school sales start.

The prices usually depend on the size of the mat and weight of the plastics. Lots of cheap ones out there, but I'd invest a little more than that for something that will hold up. You should be able to find them at a local office supply store or walmart. If you are going to have it shippled you might also check prices on Amazon.

and the rollers on your chair should match the type of flooring they must roll on. carpet, hard surfaces,,,

I do need a mat as the chair does not like the carpet. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
