We had bent needles in the commercial sewing industry. None looked like yours. The point still faced down.

Any machine that will zig zag can use the double needle. You put two spools of thread up and then run them through separate disks on the tension. Then put one thread in each needle. Then sew. You want to be careful not to go to wide on your stitches. It makes very pretty decorations. My singer 401 accepts 2 needles without having to buy the joined needles. I can put any two needles in it and sew away. If one breaks I just get out another one.

I don't know anything about the curved needle - maybe goes to a blind hem machine?

I think it's used in upholstery, made to go into an awl

This is beyond perplexing to my brain!

I wondered where that went. It must be the one that I used the wrong stitch with the wrong foot :/

I think it is for a blind stitcher . just because I have been checking one out all afternoon

that said, I did find this:

http://www.ismacs.net/needle_and_sha...rt-curved.html So, it looks like I am wrong, and there is such a thing as curved sewing machine needle.

...it does sort of mystify me...

The first is a double neddle and can be used on a machine with a wide throat plate to accomidate the needles- be sure to hand crank the wheel to check the needle movement through the plate before sewing.
The second if it truely is fashioned in that manor is most like for a blind hem machine which use a curved needle. we have gotten several calls of people selling them but I have not purchased or worked with them only know little of them

With it breaking so easily when you picked it up sounds like another vote for a bent and damaged needle. Fragile.

I believe that it's a bent needle. They do make curved needles, but as far as I know, they're hand needles not machine needles. I use the curved needles all the time when I tie a quilt.

tlclifford47 09-14-2011 12:50 PM

Yup I agree! It is a bent needle.

NUTMEG10 09-14-2011 03:35 PM

It is an upholstry sewing needle.

Jo Mama 09-15-2011 04:22 PM

THAT is a needle from the planet Mongo...

My guess is it is a bent titanium needle. The shop I used to work in sold Organ titanium needles. We were told that was one of the properties of the titaniums, they would bend not break. Some machine manufacturers advised against their use for that very reason. They claimed the bending but not breaking did more damage to a machine than the breaking of a regular needle.

wvdek 09-16-2011 03:03 AM

Could it possibly be a needle for a machine they use or used years ago in shoe making or repair?
I remember our shoeman having the neatest machines and needles in his little shop. After all these years, I can still see his smiling face. What a nice man he was.

Maybe it is a needle used in a handheld device for upholstering. Ever seen some of those needles they use? Yikes - longggggggggg and curveddddddddddd.

I am afraid ladies to say it's not a machine needle if you look carefully at the video and you will notice the eye of the needle is not at the tip it's at the opposite end to the point. But we are getting warmer DH will try to bend one for me and if he succeed I will post a photo I am in Australia and if any ladies find one in USA please let me know where or maybe some kind lady can purchase one for me and i will certainly pay for it as well as postage.

capucine 09-22-2011 04:33 PM

OK Ladies this is my theory. I think it's a fishing hook that has been remodel slightly i have watched and watched the video a hundred times i am sure it's a home remodel fishing hook!! What do you think?? Stay tune and i will post photo when DH remodel one for me (smile) Have a good day all

Has anybody figured this one out? I love tied comforters. This would be so much simpler to use.

Like I have said on here before, learn something on here everyday!

sewwhat85 03-08-2014 11:08 AM

I agree I did alterations for many years and this is a needle from a blind hem stitch machine.
