What kind of needles do you use in Janome1600p QC quilting machine

I have just bought a Janome 1600p Qc machine on a Little Gracie Frame, I was told that they use Organ HLx5 needles, are there any other needles compatible with this Machine, also i am using Superior #50 so fine thread. I am having lots of trouble getting my tension right, ( Long stitches and then short ones) I have broke 3 needles in about 1 week. I know all this is probably Operator errors . I am getting very frustrated with all these problems .I am trying to do a panograph. I used to own a longarm quilting machine and never had any problems with panto's, I cannot get this machine to do right. any sugestions would be greatly appreciated. The size #16 needle seemed to work best but only one in pkg. Maybe there is a better needle to use.

I don't have your machine, I have a Bailey. I use Organ 15x1 which is a size 16 needle in mine. These same needles fit my regular Janome machines also if I'm doing heavy duty sewing such as denim or canvas. Superior threads has a great deal of needle/thread information on their site, it might be best to match your needle size to the threads you plan on using, otherwise, follow the mfg. suggestions in the machine manual.

Thanks Rose, I will look at superior threads.

hi i have the same set up as you. first i use the superior
thread count 50. the tension thing the little notch on the
button i have straight up and down. and i use the same
needle as you HLx5 but i use the 90/14 i only use
the needles i get from the dealer. i get five in a package
from the dealer. maybe you are going too fast do you
have a stitch regulator on it. mine is on 5, the stitch
regulator.

I forgot to add. make sure you look at your manual
and do exactly the way it says when putting in the bobbin.
that can break thread if wrong.

Thank you Joset, I will check my tension, I have turned it several times. I had sent you a PM earlier and you told me what kind of thread you used and it seemed to work really well until I got the tension off. You have been a great help to me, I really appreciate your help. I do not have a stitch regulator, hope to get one later .I will also check my bobbin. Thanks again. Shirley

I have the Janome 1600P & it isn't too picky about needles. I know the 1600DP uses a specific needle, but am not sure which one. Mine came with Organ needles & I have used them & others- mostly Schmetz (sp?). I know for FMQ I have heard to use the larger sized needles. I did find it hard to get my tension right on this machine & finally took it into the dealer for help. The tension knob will turn round & round & I got it really off somehow. I have mine at around the 4:00 mark, where they set it & it likes that setting.

Thanks Maggiemay, I will Keep this in mind. I can't tell anything about the tension knob. the manual doesn't give any good directions on how to read it. It just says turn left to loosen and right to tighten. Thanks so very much.
