I have a Jamome industrial-for cloth sewing only. I have a vintage portable White-also needing a manual. 2 sergers- a toyota and a kenmore |
#1 Plus Viking
330 Viking I have what I can afford, would love to have newer Vikings and an embroidery machine. Can't afford the Diamond, Topaz or any of those and probably wouldn't spend that kind of money, however if someone wanted to give me one |

I can't afford the expensive machines...right now I'm saving my pennies for an embroidery machine, but I can't afford and expensive embroidery machine either!
I have a lot of machines, but really, except for the midarm, have not paid much for any of them. |
viking quilter 2, love it.
|
I can't afford the long-arm or embroidery machines that I would really like to have, but I have a ton of machines and I love them all.
They keep me company and I'm never bored. :) |
I think the Bernina 830 is the one I want, you have a used one? Where did you find a used one?
|
I have a Viking Emerald 118
I would like a Viking with Embroidery features (not sure which one exactly, haven't even bothered to look) but would also be willing to look at Janome, Bernina and Pfaff models Haven't looked, don't even have $100 to spend right now, much less over 3k! |
while the machines with computer boards are wonderful, i prefer simpler. now, i enjoy my embroidery machine, but had to have that motherboard replaced once. i have a juki on my frame, a kenmore as my faithful sewing machine, a new bottom line brother to teach the DGKs on and a serger. i have a singer treadle that needs a bobbin cover. is that enough???? LOL
|
I have several; my Janome 6600P is my most expensive but was only about 1200. I'm not into embroidery so have not need for those machines. I do have a love affair with vintage machines and have a fw, 301, 99, and another I haven't classed yet. Oh and a sweet little white fw is on her way.
I have all I want in machines, but I am definitely looking into getting a longarm. |
Started out with a Montgomery Wards over 35 years ago then it broke about 6 years ago and bought an entry level Pfaff. Hated it. Traded it in for a Viking Sapphire. I am so in love with this machine.
|
I have Pfaff's. I took advantage of the 3 year same as cash for my more costly one and paid it off early.
My first machine was a hand me down Singer ... back in the day. ali |
I have:
1 Janome 4623 LE Plus paid under $600 for it new about 8 yrs ago. 1 Elna Plana Supermatic made in cabnet paid $45 at Salvation Army 1 Singer 132 feather weight (new model) paid $20 at yard sale 1 New Home HF 106 paid $15 at yard sale 1 Sphinx Singer treadel paid $35 at yard sale 1 Red Eye Singer treadle gift from Mom-in-law has been in her family for 4 generations 1 Montgomery Ward in cabnet, all metal, can not find parts or information on it, am still looking, machine and cabnet in great shape, no power cords or foot petal, Got it at yard sale with a beautiful hand blown vase for $5 1 Tin Lizzie 18 with grace frame under $6,000 new at the Sew Expo in Puyllup last Feb. All except the MW work great and are used on a semi reg basis. I would love to have an embrodrie machine and one of the new Huskavana. |
I test sewed on the new Bernina, about $9000, all day for a class and it was nice but didn't sew a straight seam any better then my other machines I have. I can afford to buy any machine I want whenever I want it and DH wouldn't bat an eye but the best value for the money I would buy a top of the line Kenmore machine.
I have: Brother 1500 two Janomes Four vintage Singers including FW, 301, 15 and the first Quantum model. I had the chance to use a brand new top of the line Kenmore and it's fantastic. |
I use a Janome 6500, but am thinking of trading up to the 6600. I don't have an embroidery machine, but am thinking about one. I also have my mother's Singer which she bought in 1955 and it's the one she used to teach me to sew.
|
I have several machines, Janome 6500 (has been my main machine for several years, 830 Bernina Record (old version 1976), 1947 Singer 201, Husqvarna Prelude 350 (DD has "borrowed it}, Husqvarna #1+ (just purchased for $200 to replace the 350, a newish cheap Brother and a Singer 457 given to me to use with the 4-H girls, and some Featherweights. I paid by far the most for the Janome 6500 and the Singer 201, Bernina and Husqvarnas all sew better than it does so I don't think paying large amounts of cash guarantees a great machine. It all comes down to what you expect a machine to do. If you are just straight stitching blocks and doing Stitch in the Ditch, you really don't need the most expensive Bernina. I have yet to find the perfect machine. Some are much better at certain tasks than others. My old Singer 201 will powerhouse through several layers of denim while my Janome 6500 would growl, rattle and break needles if I tried. There are features that I really like on machines but the trick is to find the features you need at a price you can afford. I don't want to have thousands tied up in a mchine.

I have 5 vintage machines! Love them! Use them! I have 2 Janome's (one is embrodiery also), 2 sergers and no desire for a long arm. Oh, I can't forget about my "sweetpea" toy machine!
|
a vintage(7o's) Pfaff, a vintage green singer in a cabinet, an Elna quilters dream, a Janome Gem Silver, a vintage Bernina 830, and most recently a Singer hand crank and a singer treadle..also a white treadle and a 1908 singer hand crank that is TINY...I Have NO desire to have any of the newer computerized machines...and certainly not one that cost as much as a car!
|
I have a Kenmore that's 35 years old and still going strong, an 8 yr old Janome 4623 LE, a 5 yr old Janome 6260QC, and a Brother serger, all are great.......but I would love the Janome 7700.
|
I have a Babylock Ellisimo, a Brother XR-9000 for classes and a Singer 237 Fashion Mate that I am working to restore. Bought the Ellisimo with my retirement funds because I am worth it! If I could hsve any more machines, I would like the new Janome 12000, a Janome 4160QC for classes, a Janome 6500 and a HQ Sweet Sixteen sit down. May as well dream, right? (Oh if I ever had the chance to get all those, I would sell the Brother - I think - but not my Bella! The most amazing machine I have ever used!)
|
I have a Kenmore
A Janome Gem Platinum and A Janome Horizon Each has a purpose....the Kenmore is for heavy jobs like hemming jeans and other things. The Gem goes out with me when I quilt away from home; and the Horizon is my machine for piecing and quilting. |
I still have my Bernina 830 that I bought in high school in 1977. Love it. Nothing fancy for me.
|
I have a Janome 6600 which is a fantastic little machine. I honestly cannot imagine ever needing anything more. I also have an old Viking 6570 which I adore. It is a workhorse and I use it at the quilt ministry I volunteer at.
|
Right now I have a broke one....
I would like a working one..... My lovely daughter wanted gray thread, so she just grabbed some and threaded it through.... Are you ready for this... It was.... ... upholstry thread When everything jambed, she tried to "fix" it by forcing the needle up. I am ready to cry. This happened last night :( |
I have an Babylock Espire cost me 1800 and love it, worth every penny
I have a brother SQ9050 and XL-3500i cost me 200 & 109 both great for classes and piecing Dream would be either the Babylock Ellisimo or Brother Quattro both at around 12000 I would even settle for a brother Isacord or duetta which run about 6000 Oh I forgot the babylock crown jewel if I ever get the room |
I am currently sewing with a 1951 Singer 401A, purchased a couple of months ago. I'm really falling in love with this machine. I have a Janome 11000 that I really like for embroidery, but will not likely replace when it gives up the ghost. I also have a Janome MB4 for embroidery and like it a lot.
I free motion with a black Singer 301 longbed. What a great machine. Also, have a beautiful Singer 115 treadle in a parlor cabinet that's fun and a White VSII treadle that I patch jeans on. There is a Janome 1600p in my Grace Pinnacle frame, and 2 Singer 222 Featherweights and a 221 Featherweight, just for the cute factor and travel. I purchased a Janome 3160 QDC for traveling if I need more than a straight stitch, and it's a nice machine too. Must say though, the vintage machines outsew the plastic ones........ .And I'm not buying anything more unless it's a vintage machine and under $50.00. I'm done with expensive machines. Cannot justify the prices anymore.....they don't sew any better....and they need maintenance that I can't do myself. |
I am still using 3 old Pfaffs. Also have a mid arm pfaff grand quilter with a grace frame.
also a treadle and old odd brand, can't remember what it is. My mother's sears and grandmother's featherweight. I am blessed. |
For my B-day, my sweet DH (I call him my enabler) got me a Bernina 830 LE. It is my dream machine! I had a Bernina 330 for my travel machine, but on Saturday, while I was shopping at my dealers anniversary sale, DH worked out a fantastic trade in, so now my travel machine is a 450. I am in heaven!
|
nothing fancy.....3 Featherweights, a Singer, a Brother and my latest is a nice Kenmore I found in a yard sale for $25.
|
I have a Singer treadle, a White treadle, 2 black Featherweights, 1964 White in a cabinet(it was my DMIL's), a Kenmore in a cabinet (I bought this @Goodwill for $10), a newer Singer(my DD has borrowed it), a Singer 99K, a Singer 301 (I learned how to sew on this), and a Euro-Pro that my SIL gave to me.
|
Janome 4800, good for piecing and SID, useless for FMQ
A little Toyota that a friend gave me - don't use it so may give it away A Featherweight, which I LOVE and use for nearly all my piecing A recently-acquired Singer 201 that I'm still making friends with - am hoping it'll do the FMQ, but having problems at the moment I'd like - a Singer 301, but they weren't sold in Europe a treadle machine just for old times sake Something, anything that will do FMQ without arguing endlessly about the tension and won't throw a wobbly when I use supposedly machine quilting threads - they jam in the tension discs on both the Janome and the 201! |
I have a Janome/Kenmore. I have several others and I would not pay over 1,000 for a new machine.
|
I have a Brother HS2000 which I adore. Only trouble is it has a tiny harp area. Have been eyeing a used Huskqvarna at JoAnn's, but can't afford it. The lady at the Brother dealership almost had a stroke when I told her I've been quilting twin sized quilts on my HS2000! She said it's only for piecing! I can't afford a separate machine for each step! Oh well, it's a champ in my book!! :-)
|
I have a Viking Sapphire 830 that I bought for $899 as the new models came out. I've got a Singer 201 in a cabinet that was a freebie from a friend and a Featherweight that I use most often. I am intrigued by the Juki machines...next time I need one, I might check them out.
|
I have a new home( which is now Jamone) that I bought in 1970, top of the line then, is a wonderful work horse, all metal, has a few decortive stitches, it is a flat bed in a cabinet and it has swen dozens of clothes, and a few baby quilts.... that was the only Machine I had ( sorry I was going to lie-) had myMIL's old singer treadle until it burned, now all I have of that one is the cast iron frame, looking for another treadle,
A small light weight Singer I got at WW , just because I wanted something a bit newer// never satisiftied... then I saw the Jamone Horizon, and had to have it, the red front is nice, because I like red..... Not sorry I paid 2400 $ for it, right now I am just trying to use all the feet that came with it....... love it.amd lve the big throat/harp area. |
I have a 35 year old Husqvarna/Viking which still sews beautifully.
Wouldn't have a clue what to replace it with if I ever had to. Would probably seek some guidance here. |
I have 3 Janome machines, two of which are embroidery ones and both cost over $3000. but I have a DH who is an enabler. I embrodrey a lot especially for gifts.
