What is a laundry basket quilt?
I've seen photos of them. I've seen references to books about them. But what ARE they? How would you describe a "laundry basket quilt"? Thanks.
|
Perhaps you mean quilt made from patterns by Laundry Basket Quilt company:

What Trapunta said.
Edyta Sitar (designer and owner of Laundry Basket Quilts) has a definite style. Her quilts are beautiful. |
Trapunta and Peggy thanks for the link - I am simply blown away by her patterns. She has a way of playing with positive and negative space to enrich the quilt design without making my eye go crossed, even when so scrappy. I would love to try her applique patterns (bucket list!)
|
Yes, it is a company that produces patterns.
|
Oh. i had the umbrella pattern but ended up selling it unused. Shame on me.
|
Thank you ladies. She has such a "look" to her quilts, I thought maybe it was some sort of new style.
|
I just learned about this line of patterns and templates myself. DH took me to a LQS for my birthday. I picked out the "Eldon" pattern and templates as part of my gift. I also want to get the Log Cabin pattern I saw on line, but have not found one yet.

I made her quilt "Eldon" it is a beautiful quilt. I love her patterns!!!
|
Just popped over, what beautiful patterns
|
I did a wall hanging of hers, Poppies in a Vase and it turned out just perfect. Love her patterns.
|
Beautiful patterns! And fabrics!
And that Eldon is fabulous! It looks complicated, for those of you who have made it, how hard was that one? |
My avatar is her 'Reaching Out', done in different colours. This was my first appliqué project - loved every minute of it! You can get a closer look here if you want :)

Edyta spoke and presented a trunk show at my quilt guild. If you get a chance to see her or take a class, do it!
|
Edyta is our guest speaker and teacher at our local quilt show next week. I'm taking one of her classes and I'm so excited!

I will try to relate what I read in the McCall's Quilting magazine (I think) several years ago. Edyta's MIL taught her to quilt. The MIL had made quilts for all of the family members but continued to quilt. When she completed a quilt, she threw it into a laundry basket. When there was a emergency in the community, she had a supply of quilts used to comfort the victims. When Edyta started her designs, fabric line, etc, she chose the name Laundry Basket Quilts in honor of her MIL.
Incidentally, she is a wonderful and generous teacher. If you ever have the opportunity to sit under her teaching or lecture, run for a front row seat. She is excellent and you will enjoy her accent. |
Yep Edyta and her imagination are definitely addicting!! Absolutely LOVE all that she creates! May you be duly addicted too
Jillaine!! |
Just checked her web site. She has some pretty "free stuff" there. I've made my blocks for her "Appliqué Affair" and "Sweet Sixteen". 2 of my many UFOs?

We had Edyta at our quilt guild for a lecture and workshop. She was awesome and is very talented. I love her patterns. If you get a chance to see her go for it.
|
Laundry Basket quilts are gorgeous. Edyta Sitar is so talented. You can't go wrong with one of her patterns or books. I have all of her books and many of her patterns, now if I can figure out how to live to 150 I will make all of them.
|
Her fabrics are gorgeous too! She has designed fabrics for Moda for several years. Her last few lines have both batiks and regular floral's. Together they make a beautiful quilt!
