Since you didn't mention what kind of sewing, mine has nothing to do with quilting. When I owned my business years ago I sewed a seam inside out 5 times. This was on a custom order and I was trying to field calls at the same time. That was when we finally bought an answering machine and I banned the phone from the studio. My work needed my attention more than taking messages for my teenagers.

debby wicke 09-26-2011 06:57 AM

Gosh, so many times I lost count.

Stitchit123 09-26-2011 07:06 AM

I recently found that twice is my limit then I just make a new block and add the BAD one to the 'oops' box for a future quilt I've already named MOB = My Oops Blocks :-D

I'm with you !!!!

Pat75 09-26-2011 07:35 AM

Three times is my patience limit and then it is OH well only God is perfect.

Emma S 09-26-2011 07:44 AM

I use the three times the charm rule, after that I have to question my sanity. The other day I was sewing two rows together and didn't get it right until the third time. Just don't understand how I could make the same mistake twice.

margecam52 09-26-2011 07:47 AM

Three times...also paper piecing...had to tape the paper together after the 2nd try.

jljack 09-26-2011 08:06 AM

I only take something apart 2 times, then whatever it is, is!! :-) Just last night I had it happen...two points needed to come together, and they refused after 2 more times trying....so, they don't meet and never will!! LOL

lenette 09-26-2011 08:34 AM

I don't know about how many times, but I think I could go around the world with all the thread I rip out constantly! I never used to be this bad, but have always been an expert with my seam ripper.

Connie1948 09-26-2011 08:47 AM

I am soooo glad I am not the only one! Over and over again. I have a new rule if the 3rd time is not right then maybe something else is wrong and just leave it alone or if it is just a block make a new one. I have even (many times) re-sewed the two pieces back together again after unsewing them because they were the wrong two pieces. I must own stock in a thread company.

MadQuilter 09-26-2011 08:48 AM

I will pick out a seam twice. The third one stays.
On the second redo I spend a little more time trying to figure out WHY the bloody thing won't go together and adjust as necessary.

IDquilter 09-26-2011 08:59 AM

I re-sew something just 3 times, after that, what it is, is what it is.

quilted dakota 09-26-2011 09:24 AM

sigh, not sure i can count that high. . .usually cant afford to just toss it, but ive been known to "save" that block till last!

debby wicke 09-26-2011 09:35 AM

That's easy...we are human and not perfect.

ohh what a great idea, can i borrow your quilt name, and start one MOB of my own? thanks...gina

penski 09-26-2011 09:48 AM

the answer to that question from me is 3 !! and i made sure there wasnt a 4 th by that time !!

cmilton 09-26-2011 11:39 AM

LOL! My re-do tolerance is 3.

ginnh1588 09-26-2011 01:08 PM

Today I sewed the table cloth under my machine to the quilt. I think it was only the first time I sewed That row!

sewmary 09-26-2011 01:36 PM

Last night I was hand sewing my binding to a quilt and was excited cause I was finally getting to the end.
I sewed my shirt right in with the binding.

Tinabug 09-26-2011 01:56 PM

This is one of the reasons I always buy more material than I need. After 2 or 3 bad seams, that puppy is going in the trash, cut a new one.

quilt3311 09-26-2011 02:22 PM

probably 5 or 6 times, then I went to bed!!!!

emlee51 09-26-2011 02:37 PM

No more than 3, then it gets trashed, and I start a new one. That's my excuse for buying more fabric than I need.

dellareya 09-26-2011 03:08 PM

How funny. I was dealing with this earlier today. After 4 times of taking it out I considered the 5 time to be good enough.

kjym 09-26-2011 03:30 PM

Oh you gals make me feel so good. The first quilt I did was with my daughter and she would show me what to do and I would sew it. then she would rip it out and have me sew it again. Well to say the least I got laughing so hard I said if this quilt ever makes it it will be all thread and no fabric. Well we got it finished it and it turned out great.
But we got alot of laughs over it and to say the least it was alot of "blood, sweat, tears " but at least I learned how to do better. But I would say I redo about 3 times.
Like they say read the instructions before you start. will I read them over about a dozen times and measure about 5 times and hopefully the cut is right. What can I say I'm a cluts. kjym Kathy

Gosh, I pp a corner square 9 times. I had to tape the paper together then re sew it. It was fussy cut and it did make a fuss!!

Honchey 09-26-2011 03:38 PM

oops!

peaceandjoy 09-26-2011 03:41 PM

Well, it depends on the fabric. I've got a flannel UFO that had a seam taken out 3x - by then, the fabric was all stretched askew. It's been in time out for 3 years now...

Tinabug 09-26-2011 03:46 PM

Can you share this pattern with me? I really love it.

rosiewell 09-26-2011 03:49 PM

2 times and then the all thing goes into the "forget about it" bin

Iraxy 09-26-2011 04:08 PM

4 times and it was a long, seam on a king size border. Got me the Rippin' Queen award at our retreat. I was ready to toss it but had not brought the fabric with me to the retreat.

Honchey 09-26-2011 04:17 PM

Tinabug, The pattern is cut glass dish.

Wunder-Mar 09-26-2011 04:34 PM

[quote=DogHouseMom]apparently my answer is 7.

But wait! There's more!!!

1) It's a 2" seam!!!
2) It's paper piecing!!!!!

quote]

Same 7 tries for me, also paper piecing AND a 2" seam to boot. Pitiful, but not alone, apparently - thanks for keeping me company ...

misscarol 09-26-2011 04:41 PM

3 times, then I start with another piece. After 3 times, the fabric is stretched and worthless. Scrap pile!

QuiltnLady1 09-26-2011 05:52 PM

Three times -- unless I don't have enough fabric to recut (then I am a bit more patient). If I have to re-do, I normally heavily starch and straighten so the pieces will (hopefully) cooperate.

fred liniger 09-26-2011 08:09 PM

That's why i like to scrappy; always have new Matl after 4th time

fred liniger 09-26-2011 08:15 PM

thats why i always buy whey more matl than i need. Helps bill a bigger stash for scrappy QT's

grammysharon 09-26-2011 10:04 PM

How ever many times it takes to get it right! :D

TootieAnn 09-27-2011 01:36 AM

Oh me! I don't know. Sometimes I have to remind myself that "done is better than perfect" and move on. It's hard though!

gramquilter2 09-27-2011 06:48 AM

4 times this week-end and then it matched up perfectly
of course 4 set together blocks all were redone 4 times does that then count as 16? LOL :) :D :)

mama lyn 09-28-2011 01:58 AM

Sometimes is seems like 20 times but I am guessing more like 6 or 7. LOL
