I *think* I know, but have never seen it yet in real life...I have some fabric here that is a knit (Polyester?) and has an almost velour side to it...very soft, but not like fleece....I'm thinking it's not Minkee, but I'm just not sure!

A fun fabric like a soft velour with little raised dots that is used for baby blankets.

Yes I think you have it right!!! Some is more silky and luxurious than others. I have found a few places that sell double sided, but it was CRAZY expensive!!!

It is a polyester, it is a bit stretchy too...it has a bit of a pile to it, and some of it has polka dots and other designs manufactured into it.

Thanks!! I think this stuff is just a poly velour...it's pretty tho... :)

I will need to look for it the next time I am at the store

I use it all of the time...it is like fake fur almost...there are different kinds...poodle......fur...plush...some are embossed....I think they sell some at some of the Joanns? I buy mine at LQS.

Can you post a pic ?

The Minkee I saw was really soft and had small raised dots on/in it

mamabird3 06-15-2010 10:16 PM

I just made myself a quilt with it (camera is broken.. sorry) I just used it for the backing. No idea how it washes though. Guess I will find out eventually. I love how it feels though. I put it on the quilt on my avatar picture.

The original Minkee is from Benartex fabrics. I've never felt anything SOOOOOO soft. It is not like others on the market!

taiboo 06-16-2010 04:56 AM

Minkee is alittle slice of heaven all rolled into one piece of fabric,,,LOVE IT, It is expensive though, I ordered mine thru Fabric.com and it was $10. a yard, that was the cheapest i have seen it.(Unless you count their clearance section)

It is expensive, but a very cuddly backing fabric - I have not tried quilting it myself, I sent the quilts off to my friend to quilt on her long arm - I think it's too slippery to quilt on a sewing machine. But I love the results. Great for little kids or baby quilts.

It apparently also burns hotter then any other material out there. So just make sure not to use it to put out any fires.

At Joann's it's called the soft N Cuddly collection.
