I have heard the term "mottled" fabric. I look the word up and it says, irregular pattern of colors.
Is this fabric considerd mottled?

no, but it's very nice.

mottled usually means something that looks like hand-dyed or graduating shades of a color in an irregular pattern, or non-pattern. it's most usually used as a blender fabric, to bring together other, busier fabrics, although it sometimes stands on it's own.

Thank you butterflywing,
That description is very clear. Guess I'd better get to the fabric store.

I think this may qualify....

mottled fabric has almost not texture to it, the blue one I don't think of as mottled, some may. It looks like a batik.

to me mottled is one color but has slight shade variations.

I think the second example is right on for mottled (at least in my book )...but my goodness, that first fabric is drop dead gorgeous!!!

i think the blue is almost mottled, imo. there are some hard edge lines that i wouldn't expect to see on mottled fabric. this is more batik - y looking, as said by brushnthimble.
