I saw a quilt like this on a blog and worked it up in EQ. I couldn't find it in the block library though so I had to draw it. But if there's some hint on putting it together quicker I want to find it. Also I know it's made from half square triangles but wondered if there's a name of the entire block (there are 9 on this particular quilt).

Can you name the block yourself? As in you create a name for it in order to locate it faster?

that is cool, have fun making the blocks

I don't know it's name but it sure is a cool block. Thanks for sharing.

Sure is nice. I'd call it "A Gaggle of Gale's Pinwheels!"

I have a quilt my grandmother and her MIL made together with that pattern. I looked it up in Barbara Brackman's book and it is called The Colorado Quilt. It is block #1140b in her "Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns" and was first published in the Kansas City Star in 1941. I have plans to make another one some day. Mine is blue and white. I love it!

I think the quickest way would be to chain piece all your HST's, arrange the HST's as you want then chain piece again until it's done. If you want some tips on chain piecing and keeping track of your blocks I would be happy to share my method.

Thanks everyone, and thanks ghostrider, for the link!

Gale, if you want to try the grid method for making multiple HSTs, these are pretty good instructions for it http://www.quiltchat.com/lessons/halfsqr.html
It's a lot faster than single HSTs once you get the grid made and copied.

I'll check that out-thanks. I think at the very least, I would make bigger ones and then trim down.
