What is the name of this layout?

The layout looks traditional to me, but I don't know what it is called. It's kind of wavy because I haven't started sewing the blocks together. there also might be a few in the wrong direction. Not a final arrangement yet. Just trying to get as many HST as I need up there. Thanks for any help about the name.

I do not know what it is called, but I like the pattern and colors.
Can't wait to see it finished.

Don't know an official name either, but really like it! Make up your own name!!:D

QuiltnNan 07-29-2017 02:55 PM

i've seen a pattern like that... seems it was called ocean waves or something similar

SusieQOH 07-29-2017 03:09 PM

Oh how pretty!! It is sort of like Ocean Waves, but not quite. I only know b/c I made an ocean waves and used blues. Love it!

Jingle 07-29-2017 07:58 PM

Don't know but, I think it will be beautiful when finished.

Could it be Storm At Sea?

NatalieF 07-30-2017 03:20 AM

that looks awesome!

rryder 07-30-2017 03:34 AM

It's sort of reminiscent of X's and O's or trip around the world only made with HSTs instead of squares. It's beautiful-- your use of color and value gives an illusion of transparency that really makes it sparkle! I keep going back to look at it...

I looked in Barbara Brackman's book - and the closest thing I saw to your layout was something called "Broken Windows" - pattern number 1670 in her book.

The difference is that where you have four HST units in the center - the book has a plain square.

it's a nice layout - my eyes keep moving, but it's still restful.

It reminds me of the prisms in a lighthouse beacon. I am sorry but I am no help with the actual title of the pattern.

Damkina 07-30-2017 11:21 AM

I can't help with the name, either, but I love the colour and layout. It's going to be a beauty when it's finished.

I think it is a variation of "Corn and Beans".

maviskw 07-31-2017 06:53 AM

I really love it. It may not have a name - - - yet. You name it.

I can see that the "block" could be made with a center square with triangles (or four HSTs), then two flying geese on each side. Then the corner squares would have to be made with HSTs. That would put a dark square in the middle and when the blocks are put together there would be a secondary design with a light square in the center.

It looks a little bit like a pattern called Radiant, but made with half square triangles.

tuckyquilter 07-31-2017 01:32 PM

I think it's pretty, no matter what the name. I would go with either Corn & Beans, or Ocean Waves as a variation of one of them.

loisf 07-31-2017 04:33 PM

I don't know the name, but it's going to be a beauty. What a lot of HSTs!

maryellen2u 07-31-2017 07:18 PM

I have no idea about the name but I like it. I like all the secondary designs present. Keep up the good work!

Incredibly, my block a day perpetual quilt calendar has this particular block for August 1st, and they call it "Corn and Beans". I'm just reading your post a few days late, and yesterday I would have had no idea.

Looks like a lady of the lake variation??

what a coincidence

Beans & corn, or corn & beans....?usually done scrappy?

K-Roll 08-06-2017 11:24 AM

I just saved an image like this - a quilt pattern called 'Beacon of Hope' - I will try and find a link.

K-Roll 08-06-2017 11:30 AM

Here's a Pinterest link with the pattern. I like the way you made them into blocks. It was a Fons and Porter scrappy design, I'd been looking for 'easy quilts' since I've had recent "failures"....
