Beautiful! Don't know the name though. Would be a good candidate for strip piecing.

Nammie to 7 07-01-2013 06:15 PM

I don't know either - but that is a beautiful quilt!

Sewfine 07-01-2013 06:19 PM

I don't know the name, but sure looks like a lot of work.

alikat110 07-01-2013 06:27 PM

Looks like a 64 patch with sashing and 9 patch setting squares.

pretty sure it's a variation of the irish chain

Fraew 07-01-2013 08:57 PM

Are we all stumped by this beauty?

@GrannieAnnie: I searched as you suggested and found 1 quilt titled Irish Chain variation. Thanks. I'm still a searchin'. :)

Patrick's Mom 07-01-2013 09:11 PM

Your mystery pattern is a variation of the Burgoyne Surrounded quilt pattern. It is on my "things to do" list too.

Fraew 07-01-2013 09:57 PM

@Patrick's Mom: another search for Burgoyne Surrounded and I found "1" example. I guess you and I better get busy making ours to add to the variety. :D

hevemi 07-01-2013 10:01 PM

I think you could easily chain piece this: by make double 9-patches and 64 patches, and (9patces in the middle row) rail fence blocks.

Fabric Hound 07-02-2013 12:32 AM

Hi, The above pattern is called Country Lanes by Kaye England. I have been collecting pink fabric to make this pattern someday.

Fraew 07-02-2013 04:49 AM

@ Fabric Hound: Thank you! 1 more hit. This search yielded multiple examples.

The Country Lanes listed in my photo collection is very similar, but far fewer squares per block. I"m trying to remember which quilt show I saw it on. Eleanor Burns I think

dunster 07-02-2013 06:30 AM

It looks like a converted cross stitch pattern. Beautiful! How big are the small squares?

The beauty that I posted is 1/2" finished squares

I'm thinking 1" finished is more my speed.

railroad 07-03-2013 05:08 AM

It is called Settler's Trail. The pattern calls for 1" pieces, which I did, and then I made it with 1 1/2" squares. I love this pattern. Carolyn

railroad 07-03-2013 05:11 AM

The quilt name is Settler's Trail by Kathy Borgardt a Primitive Gatherings pattern PRI938

judylg 07-03-2013 05:13 AM

Lovely quilt, so many little blocks, now that would be a test for accuracy. Hope you find out the name.

MargeD 07-03-2013 06:16 AM

I do not know the name of the quilt, sorry; however, that's a lot of tiny squares to sew together, although it's beautiful.

Mystery solved! I think this is the exact pattern/name that I was looking for.

Sleuths if you know it by other names, please keep posting. When I label this quilt (someday) I will include our research findings. Thank you

Andrea 07-03-2013 11:35 AM

I have made a number of postage stamp quilts and really enjoy them. But this is an entirely new pattern to me. and I love it! Making it will take a lot of time and a lot of patience, but I think the end results would be amazing.

Rosyhf 07-03-2013 02:34 PM

Thank you for bringing this lovely quilt to our attention. I have already figured it out and am working on the middle block lol.

amelia0607 07-03-2013 03:01 PM

Peckish 07-03-2013 03:02 PM

Settler's Trail is also the name I know it by.

Please post your pics.

I am going with 1" finished squares and looking for the perfect batik background. Won't this be amazing in batiks?!?

I am going with 2 inch finished squares as I have a whole little bag left over from my cross and H quilt. I usually tend to go for 2 inches, it's just easier. I have the middle done with has 81 patches (geez, I had no idea lol) I have one side block done, the long one with the middle of that one having 27 patches. I am now working on the third block which is a nine patch and will have 49 patches. This will be a 54 inch block? good grief ahahahah

I am using a mix of batiks and QC.

Ok here are the three blocks that make up the quilt. I did the test blocks and they came out fine. I won't be able to work on it for a while as you can see the other quilt on the board that I have to finish first lol. I just had to take a break and do something else. My block is huge because of the 2 inch patches but I love it. I just have to make four blocks.

Fraew 07-03-2013 09:11 PM

Love it Rosyhf!

Strip piecing or one by one? If you are doing one by one, remember you can do it as a "leader/ender" project while you finish up the other project. This will be my "leader/ender" project...for a while. :)

Fraew, I have so many 2.5 squares saved already from other projects so I am doing one by one but speed piecing, now that I have figured out the pattern. I am trying to use as many different patches as I can and I do love working this way. I think I will go ahead and finish the other blocks to complete the major block and then go back to my other quilt until later.

I don't really like to work with smaller patches than 2.5, so every time I have a scrap left, I cut a 2.5 and add it to my supply, so I always have them for something like this. I really enjoy this type of piecing.

Zezer 07-04-2013 05:16 PM

It really is a beauty! I don't know what the name of it is, but I would be calling it "Nine by Nine" at the railroad crossing. The main block consists of nine, nine patches. The sashing consists of two nine-patches between the rails. With standard nine patch within a nine-patch for on the corner sashing. Thank you so much for sharing; I just knew there was a good reason for my purchasing a 1 1/2" strip die; I was just waiting to be inspired. You just inspired me...

SheriR 07-07-2013 01:29 PM

Fraew! Did you find me a purpose for gathering 1" squares? Thanks buddy.

gigi4419 07-07-2013 02:52 PM

Beautiful quilt!

Fraew 07-07-2013 03:09 PM

1" squares? I can't even think that small!
