Nana2Sew 07-10-2014 02:04 PM

It could be curved nine patch..........

orchidsews 07-10-2014 02:04 PM

Looks like Cathedral with 9 patch 'window' maybe?

Tartan 07-10-2014 02:23 PM

It is expanded 9 patch.

PaperPrincess 07-10-2014 03:18 PM

I've also heard it called a glorified 9 patch.

AngeliaNR 07-10-2014 03:21 PM

I've always thought it was an orange peel nine patch.

dottie dodge 07-10-2014 03:37 PM

It is a curved 9-patch http://www.favequilts.com/Block-Patt...h-Quilt-Block/

dunster 07-10-2014 04:02 PM

One more example of an old block having many names.

StickyN 07-10-2014 04:47 PM

Don't know the pattern but that sure is a nice quilt. Would love to have one like it.

needles3thread 07-10-2014 04:51 PM

Improved nine patch, I've seen it called. Evidentally many names for it.

RedGarnet222 07-10-2014 04:53 PM

I have seen it called a glorified nine patch before on a pattern I have.

Here is another source I found years ago:

It is a really cool pattern and " Charlie" has many variations on this one simple technique.
peace

Grandma and Aunt called it that also. :)

Gladygirl 07-10-2014 08:44 PM

I made this quilt many years ago---don't remember the name but the pattern was from a Sharlene Jorgenson book. It was made by making the nine patches then using a template to cut the curved sides--cutting out many of the melon shapes and sewing them on. I still love it and have it on a bed. Unfortunately I have the books all packed and ready for our move next month so can't tell you which book and she has many. It was not the main pattern in the book--pretty sure it was in one of the quilting from the heartland books. Looked on Amazon and didn't see it--the book has a reddish brown cover.

Ilovesewing 07-10-2014 08:48 PM

I also have heard it as a glorified nine patch

lclang 07-11-2014 03:46 AM

I made one years ago and it was called "Improved Nine Patch".

Linda1 07-11-2014 04:15 AM

I had that pattern in a book and it was called Improved Nine Patch. lol

lfstamper 07-11-2014 04:21 AM

Looks like a DWR template to me without the rings just the center and melons. Very cool.

I agree. Starts with an uneven nine patch block which is then cut as a rob Rob to pay Paul block. I made my own version from a photo on the cover of Quilters Newsletter circa 2000.

Yes, you are so correct dunster. There are so many different names for the same blocks. I was surprised I couldn't find it in Blockbase.

humbird 07-11-2014 06:14 AM

In one of my books, it's called "Glorified Nine Patch"

helenquilt 07-11-2014 07:11 AM

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 07-11-2014 07:19 AM

Shar Jorgenson has a Youtube video showing how to make this with her templates.

jumpin' judy 07-11-2014 08:06 AM

My mother always called this pattern IMPROVED 9-PATCH. I am making one now. I like yours. Good pattern to use us scraps.
