You did a good job. Listen to your DH. It's a labor of love and your niece will love it and the baby will treasure it.

I think it looks terrific ! FMQ is all about practice, yell, practice, cry, practice, grit teeth, practice, finally smile a bit. And remember that with 6 kids your niece probably can't even see straight right now! She will love it because you made it with love.

Do a search on FMQ on this site. Lots of info. One of the thiings you will see is that although there are some naturals out there it take most people MONTHS of practice to get everything going along smoothly. Make sandwiches to practice on.
The quilt came out really cute, by the way.
