What paint to use on a quilt?
 

I found some foam stamps that I'd gotten a long time ago to use on wooden craft items but never did. Am thinking I might try them on a quilt or quilt blocks. What kind of paint have you used successfully.....that won't be thick and hard? TIA!

I did t-shirts with fabric paints. it's not as stiff as acrylic paints. but quilts, i'd use pencils that are meant for fabric. much softer. not sure if you can use your stamps that way though.

For stamping I would think you could use the Higgins permanent colored inks like are sold for art projects. They are not very expensive and come in a number of different colors. DS has used them for calligraphy and mopped up spills did not wash out and were not stiff. Lol!

You could also try the Febings (sp?) leather dyes. I know they are permanent and do not make the fabric stiff. Both DH and one DS are leather crafters and they use old T-shirts to apply the dyes.

I like Pebleo by Setacolor.

I use the Decoart so soft fabric paint. You can get it at joann's or the Decoart website.

Everything I've done of paint on fabric has changed the hand of fabric. Have used Jacquard and Luminere, watered down with less change.

Skittl1231: could you tell us more about Pebleo. Is it a dye, paint, ink? What is it applied with: brush, blocks, spray? And anything else that helps. Is there a link for information?

visit Dharma Trading Company...they are a dye company that carries most of the supplies needed including fabric paints, markers, inks, batiking supplies, and tons of free instruction, information, hints, tips and help...I've used inks and fabric markers very successfully with stamping blocks in the past...they do not seem to change the 'body' of the fabric like some paints do...but many good fabric paints really don't change it that much & once the item is washed (if it's going to be) the fabric softens back up-
