DH stopped at an area WM to get some oil for the car and came home with six 1/2 yard pieces of these pretty jewel tone fabrics. He said, "I just liked the colors." So, I would love to use them all together...they are bright and happy like a rainbow. I had thought some type of pattern using black as the background fabric...what ideas can you suggest? Would be happy for any thoughts.

The lady in the fabric department said that they may be keeping the fabric at their store, but at first the manager said that they were getting rid of it because it was a dying art form and that young girls don't do that any more...ARRGGGH! Well, I guess someone complained as they are considering keeping it. He should see how many members this board has!!!

A star pattern with a black background would let the colors pop! Lucky Stars by Atkinson Designs is a quick & easy pattern. Or Eleanor Burns Jewel Box pattern would also look great!

What an awesome Hubster! Quick, go give him a big kiss, he deserves it!
Hope to see what comes of these! I like the idea of black for the background.

I totally love the border on that one.

Those are such pretty fabrics. I just love the jewel colors. All I know is the quilt has to have black to set those colors off.

That is a great pattern, don't think I have enough of this fabric though, but I am definitely going to save it and put it on my "to do" list.

Thanks for the link meemaw.

nursie76 07-07-2010 07:01 PM

I am so glad to see that all of you agree with the black.

manyana 07-07-2010 07:15 PM

I think the Jewel Box with the black background would look great. I have some fabric that I have been wondering what to make. the Jewel Box would be ideal. Thanks for also helping me decide. Have fun with the colours

You're right! How neat! Your quilt is great.

dkabasketlady - Yep he is definitely a keeper. I seem to be color challenged and he often helps me out when I am stuck on a color(s) for a project.

DH now tells me he really, really likes Moonlight Dancers. I want to use all my colors and I have a few more than the pattern calls for and a little less yardage...hmmm...I will have to see what I can come up with.

Thanks for all the input.

wvdek 07-07-2010 09:57 PM

What a guy! Good for him to think of you.

raptureready 07-08-2010 02:03 AM

I used very similar colors in a Mariners Compass and it turned out beautifully.

Joeysnana 07-08-2010 03:51 AM

I had similar fabrics and made a Bars of Gold/Chinese Coin wall hanging with black background and sashing.

what ever you decide will be great because they are great colors! guys are so good at picking out colors. i used to always have my sons or nephew put together color runs for me if i was having a problem picking fabrics.

Oh yeah, that would be another great pattern for this colorful group of fabrics.

hobo2000 07-08-2010 07:36 AM

wow! Husband & fabric, can't wait to see what you do with it.

mrs. fitz 07-08-2010 09:53 AM

If you like the Moonlight Dancers quilt but don't have enough fabric, just make a few blocks. Those are beautiful fabrics. Since they were a surprise and just something really nice your husband did whatever you make will be very special.

lillybeck 07-08-2010 10:10 AM

I just finished a quilt using these colors. I am trying to get is photographed and posted. It has hearts inside rectangles with borders. Quite nice
