Often I will save pics of quilts, for inspiration. Usually I am pretty good about marking them to designer, etc. And can fairly easily find it again in the computer folder I save them to.
Now, I am thinking of a quilt, and want to use it as a guide to what I want to make, and cannot find it. It is not one found here on the QB. It is a portrait quilt, the background is a beige/cream/tan/peach kind of patchwork, and there is thread sketchs of different parts of a woman - hands in one spot, face in another, just the eye in another - and the entire head to chest in another place. All sketches different sizes, sort of blending together. All done in a brown thread. I have checked all the usual portrait quilt artists, and it is not even the style of any of those (at least not the ones I remembered to check). I Googled "portrait quilts" and of course that brought up a million different sites. I think it may have been something to do with Alzheimers or something, but am not postiive. Can anyone help? |
I don't know but check out this alzheimer site. I scanned some of them and the closest I see would be "Faded" but I don't think that's it. I'll keep perusing.
Silly me-forgot the link! http://www.alzquilts.org/loatallqu.html |

Sorry-it was Fading. LT255 I think this is a better link:

I didn't think so because there's no arms, legs, etc. I'll keep my eye out! I went the the Shelbourn Museum in Vermont when they had an Alzheimer's quilt exhibit but I can't remember the quilts and you weren't allowed to take pictures.

Well, Hollis Chantelain got back to me, and it is not hers, so she suggested Lura Schwarz Smith, but it doesn't seem to be hers either. Will keep looking.

Found it! Woo-hoo!

Congratulations on finding it.
It's quite a quilt. It'll be fascinating to see you convert your grandkids' photos into thread quilts. Look forward to seeing them. |
Keep us updated thru the process. This will be amazing when done:)

Great! How did you find it? I will love watching your progress on your grandchildren.
|
Glad you found it. It is fascinating.

I did some doodling the other day, and think I have a plan, to include ALL my family (well, close family anyway). This will include my 6 grandkids, daughter & SIL, hubby, sister with her hubby, and their 2 sons, my mom and because of how it all laid out - me. I felt kinda weird thinking about putting me on there, but it needed balance.
I will make a bit of patchwork behind (as Maria did), in beiges, tans, whites, creams, peaches and pale yellows. Basically there will be a patch of all one color behind one person. Then, I will use several different thread colors (brown, black, green, red, orange and blue) to create each person. Some will be face only, some all body, some smaller and some large. I will do it in a weird sort of quilt as you go, so I can work with small bits at a time. I want to put everything else aside and get busy! But, not possible. Too many other MUST DOs on the list first. |
