My friend just discovered this quilt and doll in her mother's cedar chest, I'm assuming maybe 80 years old. Can you name the quilt or give any background to this type of quilt?

It is called a Biscuit or Puff quilt. There are tutorials on YouTube in several different ways to do them.

I'm also interested in knowing the history of these. I don't think my friend is planning to make one.

I don't think the doll is that old. Well, from the 1960s maybe. :) Her body looks like my Shirley Temple doll. Wish I could see her face.

When we were buying and selling antique quilts, we had one of those, bed size, backed with velvet and with little leather circles on the back where the ties went through. Was that sucker HEAVY!!! And of course not easily folded like a normal quilt. I was so glad when we finally sold it and I didn't have to deal with it anymore.

I was thinking the same thing. The doll looks like 50's or 60's. Like the ones I had when I was little. Still have actually.

This is what this quilt is called. I made one for one of my DGS's years ago and it was so pretty.

I have a booklet how to make biscuit quilts and I have made many, many of them. From crib sizes to queen sizes.
