I have tried taping my table runner to the wall to spray baste, and I think that I have it all smooth, but when I go to quilting it, it has all kinds of puckers. It is getting very frustrating. I enjoy quilting, but I also want it to look good. I would appreciate your help again for this newbie

I have only spray basted once. I laid table runner on driveway. I believe the can said to spray the batting. I think you fold it and spray half, smooth it together then do the other half, then spray top of batting and place top on 1/2 at a time, smoothing over and over with hand and arm until very smooth and taunt.
Wonder if there is a you tube on this subject....bet there is. Think I will check it out later TODAY! I stayed up so late it is Thursday already.

Haven't try the basting spray yet but thought I might give it a go next project. Look forward to any solutions.

I have found that I can only spray baste if my son is there to help. He takes one side and I take the other. Even on tablerunners are better with four hands.

could it be that the pressure on the presser foot is too high?

Are you starting your quilting from the center and working your way to the outer edges, instead of from end to end? If you start in the middle and work your way out it is supposed to cut back on wrinkles/puckers. I hope this helps.

I am trying to learn hand quilting, so that is what I have been using on the table runners and I do start from the center. I just can't seem to get the back fabric taut enough. Thanks for your help.

I smoth the backing and lay the batting, folded in half on top. Spray batting and smooth over backing. Fold other half and spray, repeat smoothing. Spray half of batting again and place the top (folded in half) and smooth out. Spray other half of batting and repeat smoothing on other half pf quilt top. Then I turn the whole thing over and smooth out any wrinkles I have in the backing.
Pin sparingly and quilt from middle out.

I was going to say that you need a walking foot, and I still pin and start in the middle but I see you are "hand" quilting. Sorry can't help.

I havent used the spray yet, but I tape mine down, and I know it must be really tight for me, so I have someone help me too. If I get one little loose area, same thing happens to me!

I hand quilt with a hoop stretch the front and back taunt and then loosen a little I do not get puckers. I also start in the center

iron the spray basted piece from the back with a warm/hot iron. This will help smooth it out.

Here's what I do...... on my kitchen counter I lay out my batting with backing on top, then roll the backing half way up. Starting in the middle, using a piece of cardboard big enough to control the spray, I spray,about a 15 inch square and start unrolling the backing onto the sprayed area smoothing it as I go, pin if needed. Once that side is done I turn it around and do the other side. Turn it over and do the front side. This way I am always spraying the batting and smoothing the fabric.
Goo Off cleans up any spray on the counter asap. Then I 409 the counter.

are you using a hoop?

I read somewhere you can dissolve the water soluble fusible and use it as spray. Then with a hot iron, press the backing to the batting then spray and press the top to the batting. I think I'll try that one day.
