What should I do now?
 

I've finished this attic windows quilt top and don't know how to quilt it. I was thinking outlining the square frames and shadow stitching the frames and border, but not sure. My batting says I can quilt up to 10" apart and the inside pic would be 9" square with this method. Also, how thick should my batting be? I have warm and natural, which isn't very thick, but warm. I'm at a complete loss at this step. Please help.

I would then reinforce the perspective in the attic windows with some lines. I will try and post a picture but this new ios7 upgrade on my iPad is giving me fits.

i was thinking along the same lines [no pun intended]. i think i would also quilt around the picture... not the tiny frame of the picture, but the picture itself

Here is one I did, very simply quilted on a domestic with a walking foot. Before I learned about FMQ.

Should I SID on the red first? I'm just afraid I'm going to mess it up.

I'd try out various quilting designs I might want to make on the sashings using a Preview Paper [Golden Threads] or clear vinyl marking with an erasable pen. Straight lines do work but you might prefer wavy lines or something else to your taste. The quilt I did that was similar to yours I outlined the parts of the material print so that there wasn't a fist sized area not quilted. I put in clouds in the sky and grass on the grass, etc. I loved how it came out. Unfortunately I gave it away without taking pictures.

I would do tartans idea.

I often stitch in the ditch on the long seams, from top to bottom and across just to anchor everything. It just helps to stabilize your quilt for the rest of the quilting. (Learned this in a class a long time ago.)
