Hi -

I made the below quilt with blues, purples, and pinks (very bright).

http://www.blankquilting.com/QuiltDe...llectionId=164

I'm trying to figure out what to FMQ on it. I've only FMQ-ed a few quilts, so I'm still a novice. I use the Flynn Frame System so I can only work out a 4" strip or so at a time (so a design starting in the center of each square and moving out wouldn't work very well).

Any ideas?? Thanks!

Great looking quilt Lucy! Someone on here will have a good idea for you.

To me it is the kind of quilt where you want to quilt to be the main attraction, not the quilting. If you have a varriegated thread with the colors you just mentioned, you could do just simple loops. I like varriegated threads in the same colors of the top because the quilting tends to hide and your fabric shows better. I never use varriegated when using solids, unless I want to get attention to the quilting. I am looking forward to see what you decide.

I'm so glad you asked this because I have a similar dilemma. My quilt is done in batiks and a pattern that is similar to yours, but in large squares with varying size smaller squares sort of inlaid into the larger squares. I already feel more reassured by Maride's excellent advice :-) and look forward to hearing any other tips that QB member have!! :-)

Lucy I think someone in my guild made a quilt like yours. TAKE A PEEK AND SEE IF IT IS . YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE QUILTING

If it were me, I wouldn't do loops or swirls. I'd do concentric squares to reflect the pattern. So maybe stitch in the ditch and again a line down or across the middle of each strip to make the concentric squares. (Stitch idea shown in white, but I'd use the same color thread as the background color or one that's close to most of the colors.)

Thank you all for your replies!

Maride - I usually don't like my quilting to take away from the quilt (after all, I spent weeks on the quilt, but less than a week on the quilting, so I want them to see the quilt :D I have one quilt that has a black base but bright solids for the quilt blocks and I'm quilting in black, since I'm trying to make myself like the idea of the quilting standing out), so I usually do swirls and loops. I'm trying to break that habit and be more creative. I very much like the idea of variegated thread - thanks!

bebe - Yep, that's it! I see these quilts everywhere, it's kinda cool. Very simple to make, if anyone's wondering. I made 2, then designed a 3rd one with different fabrics but the same basic block. I really really like the quilting that the person in the picture did. I'm thinking that might be the winner.

Lisanne - I thought of doing the concentric squares, but then I can't use my Flynn Frame system and I hate basting. So that was the only reason that design got disqualified.

I'll definitely get pictures up when I'm finished.
