Depending on the car situation, I'm planning on going to a fabric store later this week, in which all fabric is 1.99/yrd. Being new to quilting, and not quite sure what pattern I want to do first, I'm unsure what to buy. My budget is probably about $30, and I do plan on getting some fall and/or Christmas fabric to make holiday napkins with.
I did go a couple weeks ago and got around five fabrics, all in one yard pieces. With out realizing it, most don't go with anything else, and some I like, I'm just not sure what to do with. |
Post pictures of what you have already and we'll be able to give you all kinds of ideas as to what to put with what you already have to create something really nice.

Would love to see pics of what you already have
What a great deal on the fabric  |

You can make a scrappy quilt. Here is a good website with free patterns to the right side.

I have some of the dairy farm and it is kinda homespun. I thought to use it for backing for placemats and make hot pads to go with. Just my idea. I like them. Good luck.

Since you have all prints - perhaps you could use that as a focus fabric and get some solid fabrics that will go with it. I think we have all been in your place - just trial and error.

What colors do you recommend I get to start with? Also is there a pattern that you recommend I start with?
|
You have a lot of pattern with red in it. I would get some red variety, some greens, and some ochre-beige-yellow-gold. That way you can make your christmassy items and do something scrappy with your stash.

Decide what you want to make. Napkins and placemats? Then decide which fabric you want to start with. Say the pumpkin fabric. Cut a little corner off or scan a page of the fabric. Take this to the store and try to find at least 2 fabrics to go with it. Say a background tan or cream or whatever you think looks good. Then pick another fabric that you think looks good. You might even find several. You can't match up all your fabrics at once but eventually using this system you'll use them all. I have found that when I buy a fabric I try to get at least 1 if not 2 that will go with it.

If you decide to make placemats, you could make them reversible with fall on one side and christmas on the other.
