What size for a bunk bed?

HI Folks! Starting on a quilt for my DGD. She sleeps in a top bunk. What size do I make a quilt for her? I'm thinking the mattress is 39" x 78" so 12" all around?
Just a simple panel with two borders....
She's just turned 8, loves purple and is ADHD,dyslexic and possibly mildly autistic...

Often times you want it a bit narrower for a bunk bed or consider the size of the borders. Especially if the child is making it themselves, if the bed is set up against a wall, that wall side is rarely tucked in. Just too hard to reach. I do like to make it big enough to be a twin when/should the beds are taken down and there is only one.

Since it's for your DGD, I would measure the mattress. They are so deep these days. I like to make twin size quilts with a drop on 3 sides and a pillow sham for the top. It is perfect for using extra blocks and border. I advise someone to place a pillow in the sham and just put it on top of the regular pillow. No stuffing or unstuffing needed.

Other than crib blankets I have always made at least a twin size quilt for bunk beds just because the quilt usually last longer than the bunk beds.

There are varieties of bunk beds are available in stores its depend on you what size do you really want, anyways I have a bunk bed whose size is 39 inches wide and 75 inches long, my 2 dogs easily sleep on it, I bought it from Nest Bedding coupons at ReeCoupons, if you really wanna buy I suggest you check my signature, I hope you will find there.
