I prefer the rectangle quilts, I make them all different sizes. I am going to make some smaller ones to donate for kids that need to be removed from their homes.

I am enjoying several of my smaller lap quilts (40" square up to 48"x64") right now hanging over my windows for extra winter insulation! The one I use on my lap is about 40"x60".

I don't like square quilts for the most part. Is you are using them on the couch, the weight of the quilt and because it is so wide makes it slide off. We are not square shaped. We are taller than wide. I would make the rectangle. I love your inspiration.

Thanks, everyone. I am still dithering, but think I will ultimately go smaller and rectangular. I finally had the brilliant idea of taking the two quilts off the sofas and laying them out on the bed to measure. Discovered they are not the 100" I thought (because of their bulk and weight), but closer to 82" square. I really want to use this as a warm throw for myself on the couch, so I want something smaller and lighter than the two existing quilts. Thinking of using wool or polyester batting to keep the throw lighter in weight too.

I love the pattern and have extra blocks, so I will save the extras to make another bed size quilt later. I think. Funny how a single decision like this can put my entire quilt-making life on hold.......

Nearly all my quilts are around 60x72". Perfect "laying on the couch" quilts!
