Go to Superior threads website. They have a chart you can get that lists all their different threads, what needle to use, what tension to have your machine set at for each thread and what is their recommended bobbin thread to use as well.

I also use a topstitch needle for lots of my fmq, because I'm using a heavier weight thread and that needle has a large eye, so that thread can go right thru and not shred. For piecing I generally use a Microtex Sharp needle 80/12. I do a lot of pp and this needle is very sharp and pierces the paper nicely.

here is a link to a topic I posted on this subject! Some great info there!http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-123199-1.htm

I use Schmetz, mainly the microtex for piecing!

I see many people on the web say they use the Schmetz Quilting needles 80/20 but i can't find this size anywhere. Their site says they make a 75 or 90 but no 80? Am I missing something??

I use either Schmetz needles or organ needles size 14 for piecing and FMQ on my Juki TL98 QE or Baby Lock Jane. I use machine quilting thread or connecting threads cotton thread.
