The bulb in my machine burned out. Went to dealer bought the new one. Came home, and tried for over an hr. to replace. Old one came out and back in real easy. Thought new bulb wasn't as long as old one. Drove 15 miles to see if other place had the very same kind as old one. No luck. DH asked me why I was having so much trouble. I'm showing him how you have to line it up, push it up, and then turn it clockwise. Its in, and it works! He knows better than to say anything.

:)
Just like a bulb in a car. :) My industrial machine used regular light bulbs. Although I would have preferred the smaller version we use nowadays. |
There seem to be two kinds, push and twist, and screw in. I have been known to duct tape a nightlight to the machine when I couldn't get a bulb.
|
Isn't that just so frustrating? My DH has also learned that he'd better not say anything at all, because it's not going to be very pleasant around our house for a while! Why, why, why do such simple things have to be so difficult sometimes?

Another one of "those" moments  :lol:

My Janome 6500 takes small push in bulbs (looks like a LED light) and charges $4.99 per bulb. My husband sent me to the tractor supply store to get bulbs for the cab of his tractor. They looked very familiar and cost .51 each. I asked, they said bring in your old bulb. Guess what? Same bulb. Now I have lots of cheap spares.

It was a "tea infuser," available at any dollar store! Argh! |
That's the way it goes. Give it a fancy name and charge more.

I went to town for a lightbulb about a month ago for a Pfaff. Came home and couldn't get it in. Went back to town with the machine and the lightbulb and told them to put it in. They change bulbs all ofthe time and it was less frustrating than me trying for an hour.

Oh.
I thought this was going to be a joke: "How many quilters does it take to . . . " Just a little quilting humor for ya! |

my sewing machine has a short in the light dept. blows bulbs within two seconds of turning it on... I have a led clipon light on my machine cabinet now...
As far as charging more for exact item...when we had our automotive shop... car A used xyz starter ... cost $75 car B used same exact xyz starter .... cost $12... huh???? It's a way of justifying the cost of the machine...not! |

Dave McCallums 221 book has a great hint--buy a 2" piece of clear, plastic tubing the diameter of your bulb. push it on the end of the bulb & you can do anything with it !
|
Oh my! My hubby is afraid to come in my sewing room after the fiasco of using my best scissors to cut wire! He will never make that mistake again!!! (Of course, I did go buy 10 pairs of cheap $.99 scissors and have them all over the house so he has no excuse.)
I am afraid I would be sewing in jail if he gave a featherweight away! |

I bought filters for my CPAP machine. They were in an opaque bag. The cost was $30 for 10 x 1" squares of quilting batting that we can buy in the el cheapo for $2.50 a metre....NEVER AGAIN will I let that company trick me.[/quote]
what is a CPAP? |
Wait until you have to change the bulb in a Viking machine. A special bulb inserting device came with my machine. Do you believe it????
|
Brernia's have special little screw drivers for changing some of the feet on their machines. I was at a retreat, and they almost look like a phillips, but that doesn't work. Just something else to make your day.
