I use 100 wt Invisafil thread (aka Wonderfil). It is so fine and it disappears into the applique nicely. I have been using it for a few years now and have been winning ribbons on my quilts at shows. I used to use the DMC and found it to be too heavy. You can make a slip knot at the eye of the needle with this fine thread and it will not come off your needle until you cut it off. That makes it so much easier with silk thread also. The Invisafil thread can be ordered in multi packs at www.softexpressions.com.

I use the 60 wt Metler's and YLI 100 wt silk. These are what I use for hand applique, prefer silk if I have what matches. I have a friend who loves the Metler 60 wt embroidery thread for machine applique. It does look beautiful and has tons of colors. I am in the process of colllecting them all.

For hand applique I use silk thread and a #10 or 12 straw needle. The needle is nice and flexible.

100 wt YLI silk Only have a few colors so far but they blend in and can't see the stitches.

Me too. The best I've found so far.

I love YLI silk thread, but the colors are limited. One thing I did learn , if you have to choose, pick a shade darker ..it is lest apt to show in the shadow of the roll in the fabric . I have used rayon thread too, but find it will shred quickly , so keep the length shorter than I would with the silk thread. Best wishes and enjoy applique...its just the best!

I have been using Superior ,bottomline, it has been very good to hide the thread and I like it very much.

Silk works the best for me.

I use silk thread and have just discovered "The Bottom Line" thread which is a fine thread and works great. I also use straw needles because they are sharp and thin.
