what to tie a quilt with?
I am tying several quilts, but I'm not sure what to use to do the tying. Yarn, or crochet cotton.

Perle cotton is a popular choice. Some people use embroidery floss, some yarn... It's a personal choice, I prefer Perle cotton because it is strong, comes in a variety of weights, a vast assortment of colors, doesn't shred like yarn can...just my favorite choice - what ever you choose is ok

I have always used crochet thread. I wish I could tell you the size but when i moved I left what I had with a friend. I just know the size package I buy. It is about the size of a baseball. I always buy Coats & Clark when I can find it. The thread is about the same as kite string. I hope this helps.

I use embroidery floss, usually 4 strands.

I am tying a quilt for the first time. I am using embroidery floss, 6 strands. I read quite a bit before beginning this project and have the ties going to the back. Occasionally I also attach a little button to the front. It is going to be cute. I chose to tie as I wanted it to be fluffy rather than more flat. I am also using what was referred to as a surgeon's knot. That is the wonderful feature I love most about quilting is that it takes you in many directions. Enjoy.

My Gran tied all of her quilts, she used yarn. I have my first tied quilt planned (but not sewn yet) - I plan on using embroidery floss on that one.

My very first quilt I tied using yarn....all I had on hand......still use it and knots are still right........used surgeons knot btw

I actually prefer embroidery floss, I don't like the look of yarn after washing, but crochet thread is okay.
